when it booting up the bars are passing and then it frezzes at the bars and then it goes after like a min or so. I told him to try bootvis and see what happens but what do you guys think.

Ok he says when He unplugs his IDE cd-rom drives it boots fine but when there pluged in they it couses the problem even if theres only one drive. and there both on CS is what he says

Two ROM drives, or two RW drives? Because XP/XP Pro choke with two RW drives on one channel; I'm not sure about other versions of Windows. Also, why CS? Set the jumpers manually. His motherboard is most likely too new to handle CS. Also, tell him to buy a new IDE cable, while he's at it. They're cheap, and he might have been too rough with his old one.

New IDE cable would be my first guess. I'd also try switching the cables on the CD drives to see if it still acts up or change to the other in the BIOS as the secondary boot drive.

Try setting the jumpers with the drive at the end of the cable to master and the other drive at slave. Try a new IDE cable as well like the others suggested.

myocardia, I have 2 RW drives in my system on the same IDE channel and don't have a problem with XP choking. My bro has the same thing and no trouble as well....

ok, he said he put them on Master and slave and it fixed the problem , but i will still tell him about putting 2 rw drives on one channel. Ones a CD-burner the other is a dvd burner. But thats how my set p is also and its fine but ill still tell him that
