I'd say that it is any event or activtity that directly results in the injury or death of an ally.

Hmm, thats pretty vague. So those numerous chopper crashes would be considered under friendly fire? I'm looking for an example since the news keeps saying that many of the marines have been injured due to friendly fire.

Friendly fire is when you're shot at by your own guys..

It means saying "I'm sorry" as you nail the guy infront of you with a flamethrower.

It's the Canadian way.

A helicoptor crashing by itself is not friendly fire. A helicoptor crashing because had to do emergency manuvers to avoid colliding with another allied aircraft would be, at least IMHO. An allied soldier killed by allied bobming would be killed because of friendly fire. An allied tank being hit by allied artillery would be friendly fire. An allied soldier being hit by shrapnel or bullet spray from another infantry personel would be.
