friend was laid off today

Hi all,
One of my friends got laid off today (well they told her over the phone that she's going byebye b/c she took the day off, lol). She's going in tomorrow to gather her stuff & get paperwork.

I remember some time ago (probably more than once) there was a nice advice thread talking about what to be expecting in terms of length of severance pay/continued health care, talking about getting an attorney to review it, etc. Could someone help me find some such threads? I suck at searching, apparently.

I don't know where those threads are but good luck to your friend I hope she's able to quickly find a job.

If they gave that reason for the termination, it sounds like for-cause and I doubt she will get severance.

I'm not sure if he means they told her over the phone because she took the day off, or they let her go because she took the day off. Letting her go with no notice does make it sound like she was fired though.

Wonder if there are ways around that. A bitch of a previous "friend" told me she got fired, but then collected employment insurance. I didn't put two and two together until recently. Oh well, I dumped her for lying anyways.

To clarify, she was scheduled for vacation today (to visit a graduate program) and got a phone call late in the day telling her that there had been a round of layoffs. A couple of other people seemed to have also gotten laid off as well.
