Whoa, glad I stumbled on this thread, because I'm experiencing the exact same issues!
I also have two GTX 460's in SLI, running Win 7 64bit, and the issue only just started happening this week, seemingly after I updated Nvidia drivers... But I did also install some chipset drivers I hadn't bothered to since my last reformat, so it could be either.

[Update] Ok so i think i worked out the system freeze issue. But that apparently was a separate system issue.

Could you share how you fixed that part? Hopefully it might help me and any others who run into this issue!

edit:
So, while doing some searching i found a link that seems to describe my problem.:

But for some reason it is coming up 404. But based on the blurb, that is exactly the problem i am having.

If you check out the cached version, it doesn't seem to be related unfortunately. It's just a post about how their system locked up when recording their live stream, so they weren't able to post an episode.

edit 3: So far, having Nvidia Virtual Audio Device uninstalled seems to have gotten rid of the audio stutter. I still get random system/video freezes for split seconds... but I've had that issue for a lot longer =/
