Went to the convention center and left a message for him. He had not picked up his badge yet. I checked the San Diego and Orange counties sheriff's dept website to see if there was a record of him being arrested... all the phone numbers urge you to check online. I've also called a few people in his hometown and left messages to get a contact number for his parents.

That's pretty worrying. Give the local hospitals a ring to see if he's been brought in. Ask for him by name and while its a bit morbid ask if they've had any unidentified patients in the time frame that he's gone missing.

This is a long shot, but you could try going back to the convention center to find someone with authority at the registration area. Explain the situation and ask if they can see if your friend made his hotel reservations when he registered for the convention. Many people do. They may not want to give you that information, but you could plead with them to at least call the hotel themselves and see if he has checked in even if they don't want to tell you what hotel it is.

If he made hotel reservations independently of the conference registration, they won't have his hotel info.

I updated in a post earlier.

I can't find his parents phone number using white pages (There are quite a few Lyons' in Kenosha). I tracked down some of his collegues that may be at the conference with him and sent them an email. I also emailed his professor to see if he had an emergency contact for him. Still hesitant to create a missing persons report without contacting his parents first.

I may end up calling a lot of wrong numbers today in order to get ahold of his parents.

Got ahold of his parents, they heard from him yesterday. I guess they were trying to get ahold of him all week too. His mom asked me to kick him in the ass when I see him, lol. Planning on tracking him down at the conference tonight or tomorrow.
