My friend is looking to buy a '95 Camry LE w/ 117k from a local used car lot. He's not sure on the asking price yet, but it looks to be in pretty decent shape. What I'd like to know is what kind of things to look for when he goes to check the car out and test drive it. Are there any specific problems that are common in this gen camry? Any help would be great (that means you NFS4!)

Haha, 124,000 miles here and still going on my '95 Camry LE.

As for problems...Ummmmm, I'm thinking...can't think of anything, at least with my car:p Tire rotations, oil changes, timing belt every 75,000 miles...that's about it for me at least. I just bought new tires on Sunday from BJ's warehouse (Michelins, $322 - $50 Mail-in rebate + free lifetime rotation and balancing).

I mean, I hear a few squeaks here and there every once in a while, but the damn thing is nearly 10 years old (assembled in '94).

One thing to keep in mind though...if you see a Camry on a used car lot, I'd take a look at that mofo for problems. Camrys and Accords are cars that I rarely if ever see on a used car lot. Those two vehicles that ALWAYS have an owner no matter what.

I have a '95 Camry LE 114k, only problem I have had (I have only put 40k on it) are the breaks.. The car has been very solid otherwise :)

I had my front brakes replaced at 100,000. I just thought it was normal wear

brakes are normal maintenance.

i have a 96 corolla and i can vouch for them being pratically problem-free, mine has about 102k right now, no problems except something with the EGR system...(chk engine light) blah.

good cars, maybe have a mechanic you know check it out before you buy.

Excellent advice.

I'd also like to suggest that you look at the VIN number's first digits to see if it's built in Japan or Tennessee. 'JT' means Japan, '4T' means Tennessee, I believe. If it's 'JT' I'd say jump all over that mofo. It seems the Tennessee cars are still highly reliable yet, honestly, tend to have more squeaks. (Probably my imagination) We've had one Japan-built 95' Camry and two Tennessee-built 95' Camrys and the Japanese has been the best. (Saved my life in my car accident).

The bottom line:

95' Camrys are superb cars.

My Camry was built in Tennessee. Maybe your "squeaks" theory is correct :D:p:)

Have a 96 V6 Camry. Can't say how the 4cyl model rates, but, our LEv6 has (so far) been very reliable. Up to 90K Miles now and have had regular maint plus tuneup and timing belt change done. Also had the transmission serviced (fluid change, etc). Nothing else that I can think of.

We bought it used w/ 38K miles on it and have had it the last 5yrs.

I'll have to check the vin, I don't know where ours was built, but it is very quiet... abeit a slight bit noiser at 90K miles than 38K.

I was looking at buying a '95 Camry XLE with 85k for about $6k. Could someone explain the different model differences? LE vs. XLE, etc.

XLEs I think have spoilers, CD players, leather, and something different with their exhaust.

Another thing to note DrumminBoy is that Toyota Camrys are the cars thieves tend to keep their eyes on. I'm not sure about the 95' model but I'd tell him to keep his doors locked.

Fortunately we've never had that problem. But I bet 90's Camaros top that problem. Every 90's Camaro we've had, the power windows never worked. It was the biggest pain in the ass I've ever seen. Currently my brother's 91's passenger window won't go down so he has to ride around with the T-tops off with the passenger window up (teh ghey). We're never getting another Camaro.

I've got leather, cruise, power moonroof and 10-disc CD on my LE :)

My mom has a 95 XLE...

Its not leather, no spoiler...

Hers just came with a V6 3.0, with duel exhaust...

I'm also the person that is looking to buy the 95 LE... its a nice looking car, dark blue with only a few paint blemishes, they tote it as one owner and lots of toys...
