Those are all collectible laptops. They're not worth much now but in about 10 years, they'll be worth a lot more. Remember folks, 10 years ago you could get an 80s porsche 911 for around $5k. now they're like $15k+ cars.

When you decide whether to recycle a computer or not, don't think about yourself, but think about others who may in the future be interested in this stuff. Laptops were only invented in the late 80s, so it's some of the first gen laptops made.

The difference between a car and a laptop is that the car will still be able to perform its primary function similarly to every other car. In 10 years, people aren't going to be firing up a then 30 year old laptop because it is a "classic." By your logic, I should hang on to this 2gb flash drive and pass it down for thousands of generations because one day someone will surely want it because it's a 2gb flash drive, and 2gb flash drives haven't been around that long, relatively.

Nobody will ever want this laptop. Not anyone sane, at least.

Granted systems need to be complete and in good condition to fetch high prices but alot of these are around the price of a new PC.

Vintage electronics has been a thing for a long time and it's just now starting to make it's way into computers and video games. The Original NES is now approaching the price it originally sold for when it was new and factory sealed NES games sell for well over $1,000 now.

1. They are not actually sold. I could put a 2gb USB drive on ebay for $10,000.
2. Most of them aren't laptops.
3. Some of them are rare, early-gen computers produced by the companies.
4. Some of them were extremely expensive when they came out.

None of those systems are remotely close to the average, piece of shit late 90's laptop like the one in question.

The system is trash, it will always be trash, and it belongs in the trash. Rather, it should be recycled.

I agree that the novelty of 70s/80s tech is very different than 90s tech.
The flip side is that the former probably has 5% of the reach that the ubiq. 90s laptops did.

Thanks, I told him there is no market for this stuff.
They seem to sell for $40 to $80 on Ebay, but that's a lot of work for $40.

It's not a lot of work if you give the money to charity. :colbert:

Ebay has a charity option.

A computer does not age like a fine wine.

Donate them to good will. :colbert:

Goodwill is just a corporate garage sale. I use to work for Goodwill and I threw away so much shit. Got two PSx's for free that I hid behind the dumpster they had me throw out. Go to Habitat for Humanity.
