2 to 4 tabs(250mg each) a day for a month and i bet you all the acne will be gone.
But the thing is he has to stay on the plan...he can do cycles...start with 3-4 a day and after a month,
one a day.

1st side effect: a little poorer
2nd side effect: smooth skin

If you're on any of those drugs you need to stay out of the sun. A friend of mine went sailing during her tetracyclene treatment and she wound up looking like a leper and her fingernails came off.

sorry no pics

There are vitamins he can take, which are supposed to be good for your skin. I think B12 is one. I would recommend a gentle cleanser, not a harsh one. Cetaphil makes good cleansers. And he should use a product with 2.5% (nothing higher) Benzoyl Peroxide like Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment. And using Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque 2 or 3 times a week also helps.

2.5% ?!...come on lady, we're talking more persistent acne here. Go for 5-10% benzoyl peroxide is my advice and make sure
its a WATER based formula. Results and absorption is much better with H2O based formulas.

For chronic acne, atlest 10%.

Accutane does have side effects, thats why you are monitored(blood tests), while taking it. Most people do not have severe side effects from accutane. It also doesnt work for all types of acne.

I havent been on accutane yet, but I will be soon. Ive tried every medication and cream, common and uncommon. Accutane should clear up all my acne in one month.

Accutane. If it doesn't work, god help him.

If his dermotologist hasn't reccomended it - he needs to switch Dr's.

well back in the day of that stuff (high school) I was told to keep fit (low fat and cholesterol) and not to eat food that is loaded with fat. You all know what that is ... anyway.

Then I used a good soap (Specto Jel) and used a really rich moisturizer after. You can use all the drying chemicals you want but if you don't moisturize the skin won't heal as fast thus ach. remains longer.

Why do you think girls have less then guys? They use more moisturizer then guys do, and I think they keep a more hygienic cleaning practice.

Laugh all you want ... but it's true.

anyway diet and exercise is important too I think ...

if its chronic then it might be something else ... and then he should see a doctor for more help.

My wife is 35 and still gets zits when that time of the months comes. Her sisters are the same way. It sucks and nothing the doctors prescribed has worked.

I couldnt imagine doing it either.... but it was his baby, and its not like babies eat all kinds of gross stuff right? Breat milk..

5-10% can be too harsh for the skin. 2.5% is just as effective but isn't as harsh. When using 5-10% all youre going to get is dry, irriated skin. Tell your friend to check out this forum and you'll see that more people recommend the 2.5% with a gentle cleanser, moisturizer and if necessary a mask.

I just did a quick search for that, and I came upon something that was whole leaf aloe jelly based. Is this bad? You recommended a water based formula.

I had no real acne until I turned 22, but I've had a pretty bad case of it ever since. Apparently, it runs in some of my family. I don't think vitamins alone will solve the problem, although it may be worth a try. If that doesn't work, then it's either drugs or topical medication. I only used the cleansers, so I can only comment on those.

I use a facial cleanser in the morning and night, and a 10% benzoyl peroxide medication(no clue if it's water based or not) at night. This keeps me clear 99% of the time. It used to make my skin kind of dry, but I figured dry skin was worth it to stay clear. Nowadays, I only really get dried out in winter if I'm outdoors enough. Your friend should use a 5% one if he has sensitive skin or mild acne, really.

It's also necessary to practice good hygiene and clean up when you get dirty/sweaty. You have to avoid touching your face, as your hands are going to be constantly dirty. I pretty much rinse with water a few times a day, but I'd do that anyway, since I get a lot of oil on parts of my face, too. I don't know if the condition will ever end; every time that I've stopped using the topical medication, I've broken out again within a couple weeks.

Anyway, at $20 a bottle(for what I use, cost will vary depending on where you go), it can seem pricey, but then the two bottles last me four to five months. It's well worth it to me. I'll bet drugs are more expensive, at any rate.

A dermatologist might be a good idea, depending on the situation. I never went to see one, though.

This is also a new development you might want to look into LinkyDinky
