My friend has a weird virus, I dont think its Sircam, but it wont let him open explorer, it gives him this message:

pleas check your content advisor settings for missing information. click the tools menu and then click internet options. on the content tab, check the content advior settings

Then it asked for his validation code, which him being an idiot, gave out. He cannot get on the net to figure out what it is, but AIM still works, so if you guys can direct me to more info, or a fix, I can file transfer it to him.

Thanks

Symantec.com
Mcafee.com

Remember that formatting the hard drive is the last and least desired option. If you suspect certain files to be infected, just compress those until an antivirus becomes available, and delete the originals.

I would just reinstall IE in your case, but first do a Scandisk to make sure that all corrupted (if any) IE files are at least in a valid state (i.e. not cross-linked with any other files).

i agree with isekii...format and reinstall, yes it's a pain, but it's the only way to be sure that the virus is gone, unless of course if it's in the MBR in which case more effort will be needed to get rid of...

It is not a virus. Content advisor goes off of its rocker sometimes and does that. You usually have to call Microsoft to get it fixed.
