My friend got an IS300.

He crashed into a telephone pole soon enough. Killed the front of the car.

The pole broke in half. THe bottom half fell down and lay on the street. The top half was HANGING on still ... hanging by the wires. Good thing power didnt get cut cuz of this stupidity.

Newb drivers in an RWD car would do that

I'd never get a car with finance or a loan...

Why not? If you've got good credit, you can get ridiculously low interest auto loans. Cash in hand, especially if you invest, is better if you can get a 5% or lower auto loan.

Stretch out your payments, invest your cash, and write off the interest expense if you can.

Buying cash is great if you can afford it, but if I had $35K in the bank I wouldn't withdraw $32K to buy a car cash.

Just graduated from college about a month ago, working some mediocre job she had from college, and took out a 5-year loan to pay it..

Thing is though, she doesn't like cars AT ALL 😕

And, her goal is to get a "Bimmer" in 4 years..asked her which one and she said, "I don't know yet". Then I asked her why and she said "because i have to upgrade and upgrade means bimmer or mercedes"..

😕

Ouch! A 5-year loan?

This is why people default on loans, and/or don't pay off their student loans.

This man speaks the truth.

Assuming hes a decent guy, when he meets her and finds out shes in debt and doesn't know how to save or manage money well, then what?????? and yeah, should have waited for an IS350.

WOW. I am VERY surprised I didn't see this thread. WOW> JuST SIMPLY WOW.

First of all, I AM SAID GIRL and I AM BOILING right now just reading this thread. Obviously my "friend" doesn't know ANYTHING about me. I am fvcken disappointed.

Yes, I just graduated from college and NO i did not just GO OUT AND BUY A CAR BECAUSE IT IS TRENDY. I DID my research and talked to a lot of my guy friends who are very into cars before making my purchase. I've looked into various types of cars (TL, Lexus, Bimmer, even mercedes) and conclude that lexus would be the best for me. It is reliable, it does not cost as much to maintain, and I could easily afford it.

1) I DO NOT HAVE any college loans, credit card loans, or any sort of loans whatsoever. Actually, 5k right now (from my first year because I thought I couldn't afford college by myself) but I have enough money in my savings to pay that off and then some.
2) I've been living alone for the past 4 years (since i moved out to go to college) and never once relied on my parents to pay for my rent. I worked 2 jobs, go to school full time, didn't take out any loan after my 1st year, and just pay for everything. So seeing as how I moved back home, I decided with the rent money I saved ($625 a month), I could use that to pay for my monthly car payment ($400).
3) My little brother who is also in college needs a car to drive to school. Before, when I was living near UCLA, I took the bus to school because I gave my car to my brother to drive. I did that for 4 whole years. Seeing as how I am at home now, I need a car to drive to work and he needs a car to drive to school. So I gave him my 2003 Honda Accord as a gift. This means I need a new car to drive to my work, hence my upgrade from a Honda to a Lexus. And yes, when I buy another car in 4 years (I am going to give my Lexus to my sister when she graduates from high school as a graduation gift), it will be better than the IS300.

I admit, I am high maintenance, but it is done through my own pockets. I had NEVER ever accept any expensive gifts from my ex boyfriends. One of my ex boyfriends even got mad at me for never asking him for any LV purses (which he would happily buy me). The reason why I saved so much money is because I was never into those brand name things -- I don't own any LV purses, jimmy Choo's shoes, or Cartier watches. I saved those money to take out my younger brothers and sister EVERY WEEKEND (at least $80 bucks each time). I save those money to give to my dad (I gave him $400 last month) and on weekends, I sometimes work for my mom. I take my friends out all the time, and I always offer to pay when I eat out with guys I date. I don't expect them to wine and dine me, I could do it myself. I get manicure and pedicures twice a month, brazillion was once a month, dye my hair every 3 months...so what? It is from my own pockets that I work fvken hard for, i damn well deserve it!

Argh I am so pissed right now!
