Friend Fvcked his Comp Up...

alright, I my friend fvcked his computer up and needs some advice, this is what he asked me to post:

I was just fvckin around with my computer, and I meant to pull out the fan connector thing from the psu, but I plugged something else out by accident then my LCD shut off, two seconds later my whole computer turned off. So I thought it was no biggie, I would just plug that back in and it'd turn back on. I was wrong, it wont turn on now. Somebody PLEASE tell me its my PSU. Im posting on my old 2.4ghz POS.. so I wanna get it fixed ASAP. I just built that computer that fvcked up 2 months ago, its an amd 3500+.

EDIT: he's not exactly sure what he pulled

Have you tried to unplug the PSU and let it set for a while and then replug it in? Are you sure you plugged everything in properly?

... since when was 2.4ghz considered a POS? Even if it was an Intel system, that is more than sufficient for all of today's programs and games.

its a POS when you've used an AMD 3500+ for 2 months. And it was free, s I'm not spoiled.

Yeah, thats me... okay, give me a sec

somebody told me to do this....

Okay,

Disconnect everything except a fan or a light, something you don't care about.

Turn the switch off the PSU and pull the ATX connector (big one, 20 or 24 pin) from the motherboard. Take a paper clip and connect the GREEN wire's lead to ANY BLACK wire's lead on the connector. Make sure it doens't touch other metal and turn the switch on.

If the PSU spins up it's fine and other sh!t is fvcked up, if it doesn't, the PSU is shot.

somebody else told me to reset the cmos battery

That works, I had to do it on my old comp. I would recomend putting the paperclip in when the switch is flipped off, then flip the switch to on so you don't have to put the paperclip in while there's juice in the PS.

 Thats I figured too!

Good luck with getting it back together!

Question, don't take this the wrong way...but in the orig post it mentioned that you built it and you don't know what it is you unplugged?

Did you unplug it when the system was turned on?

No, I didnt check.. yes I unplugged it when the system was turned on 🙁

your friend could be the poster child for "if you mess with something long enough you will break it"

Was he trying to accomplish something, or was this simply a lapse of anykind of thought?

Why would you unplug something when your computer was turned on??? Why would you intend to unplug the CPU fan connector while it was on??? Did you hope to watch the CPU possibly get damaged while it overheated?

You're psycho.

The fact that it was free would make you more spoiled. Neither of those systems is a "POS" with the possible exception of it being a Celeron 2.4 😛

You're going to have to "slowly build" it - test first the PSU as stated, then plug in just the motherboard and video card - enough to see if it displays anything. Swap video cards if you can/need to. Proceed adding components until you find the one that makes the house of cards come tumbling down.
