Friend dropped iPhone 4s in water

Friend dropped iPhone 4s in water, now only the speakerphone will work, not the regular speaker. Also some SIM card errors. What would be the best way to get a new one? Im pretty sure its out of warranty. They do not want to get an iPhone 5 for some reason so i guess an upgrade is out of the question.

If he's eligible for new phone pricing (if he's had it more than the 2 years or 22 months or whatever his carrier decided) then he can still buy a 4 or 4S. (4s are free, although there's usually an activation fee. 4S is $100.)

He could try powering it off, taking out the sim, and letting it sit in a bowl of rice for a day or so to see if it can draw any more moisture out of it. Most likely wont do much but it's worth a shot.

Sounds like urine trouble!

-Take it to an Apple store and they will sometimes swap it out regardless of warranty or water damage. It's a long shot.
-Remove the SIM card, take off the back cover, and let it dry out for a few days.
-Mom and pop cell phone stores will sometimes repair or replace them for a small fee.
-Worst case, you can still sell it on ebay for some decent change.

Dunked mine in the water once. Let it sit for an afternoon, then connected it to itunes to see if I could get data off of it, and it came back to life.

Just call Apple, they'll replace it with a new one, my buddy ran his 4S through the washing machine. He had a new phoned UPS next day, handed the UPS guy his old phone, done. $200 and change with the express cross ship option. I also helped my gf get a replacement, she dropped her 5 and broke it.

Kazaam, just have your friend put the phone in a bowl of rice overnight and watch the watch come out. The rice absorbs the water and you should be good to go. I actually got thrown in a pool with my iPhone in my pocket and I put it in a bowl full of rice and in the morning my phone was like it never was even touched by water. If that solution docent work, just bring it to the Apple store and hopefully they will replace it. Just my 2 cents.
