She has windows XP Professional and she can get to the point where she needs to log in and somehow none of her passwords work. Is the only way to get into the computer is to format and start over? Is there some sort of hacker program that I could use to help her? No, this is not a way to find a program so I can actually "hack" I just need to help her out. Anyone have any bright ideas? Thanks....

i think you're going to need a password reset disk if you don't know the user password or the administrator password.

Bump....is formatting the only option? Doesn't anyone know a password cracking program? It doesn't matter to me either way, but I figure I might try and save some of her documents...

How do I acquire one of those?

see the man on the corner of 4th & 3rd.
mention the words "stolen" & "winXP"

you might try seven '*'s instead of six, I think thats how many are on mine.

seriously, format c: or reinstall winXP if you cant guess from the hint button (?) .

On Pro, try "Administrator" and blank 😛

Its like the cartoony friendly version, not the box where you type it in.

program called winternals admin pack has a dos utility that u can use to change admin passwords w/o having to know the original password.....kind of an expensive piece of software....but you may be able to kazaa it......if u don't mind stealing software of course which is completely wrong!!!

I read something bout using a windows 2000 disc and doing some kind of restore deal, can bypass passwords. You could network it to another computer and us LC4 windows password cracker,

Did you make sure caps locks/and or nums were on or off? Passwords are case sensitive

You can either use the LC4 program, or use a boot disk that will decrypt the SAM file from DOS or Linux. The SAM file is a registry hive which contains the Hashed passwords. You may not be able to decrypt it though, and writing to NTFS under Linux is risky, so use at your own risk.

I've been able to recover passwords for win2k this way before..
First I boot into dos. If the partition is ntfs you have to load ntfs dos or something else to mount the ntfs drive. Then copy the sam file onto a floppy disk. You can then use l0phtcrack or some other password cracking tool to try to get the password. Keep in mind this only works if syskey is not installed.
