Friend Claims PC Gaming is Unfair

Yep, it is called NASCAR. Some forms of racing however have wider open formulas, like Formula One. A wide open formula is probably a better analogy to multiplayer PC gaming.

My point was, not ALL racing uses this. And the analogy was the original statement invalidates any racing but Stock Car racing.

And add to that the perfectly valid point that even within consoles there are variances in hardware platforms.

At the end of the day, I think the OP had it right in that their 'Friend' just likes to argue (and doesn't like to lose).

My friend has the consistent need to argue about everything. His latest argument is about PC gaming, because I just built my own gaming PC.

He says that PC gaming gives an unfair advantage and that gaming shouldn't be played that way. He feels that consoles are better as they offer standardized gaming where everyone has the same performance and nobody really has much of an unfair advantage. He also says that it's not fair for someone who has less money and can't spend it on affording a nicer gaming rig so therefore that person is unequal.

I feel like this is becoming a bit political -- not saying politics should necessarily play a part -- but when he starts bringing in equality and everyone having the same things and the competition being completely fair -- wait, isn't that communism?

Don't be daft.

tell your friend he's an idiot, but at the same time, don't stoop to his level and claim OMG COMMIE! over this BS.

Computers that can game well are cheap nowadays. When was the last time there was a true upgrade in graphic card generations? 2 years ago?

Any counter arguments?

1 - ingore friend and his "tall poppy" syndrome

2 - that is why consolers and PC gamers do not play the same game / on the same server

3 - re farness, it is a game, just like life. if you can get an advantage, you take it. Is he also against education?

Since when is life fair? Try playing a sport against a guy that has all the top end gear. Or access to a trainer.

a basketball game is probably the type of competition the friend had in mind, where success is the result of athletic superiority not equipment.

Given how a good fitting shoe can make the difference in a person's performance in a long game, I think even that example can be effected in the direction of equipment.

There is absolutely a difference in having a better PC than having progs, lagging, et al with regards to intentionally trying to cheat. There is something to be said for having a level playing field but not at the expense of innovation. As with everything there is a balance...

this. Fancy graphics are for fun, not for winning.

When i used to play Unreal tournament 2004 competitively me, and all the other players, changed the resolution to 640x480 and everything in low graphics, no dinamic lighting, no high res textures, not even the view of our own weapon, and the server used a program to make the other players look shinny and with the same model to make it visible and fair.

and we all could play it in 29031x94801231 resolution if we wanted to

Ok, the above is 100% true. However to press this point, let's take this from his friends noob viewpoint of gaming where eye candy and resolution make the game, which equates to higher end hardware. again, having read this whole thread, take out internet speed because that is a factor in console gaming as well, therefore, both PC and consoles r at the same disadvantage.

Second, your friend thinks that graphics allows one to win more often online, which basically equates to a guy with moee money can buy better hardware, so he has higher resolution and cam "see" better. Now what about console players? if they buy a 720p vs 1080p tv, they get higher resolution if they get the more expensive tv.

Granted there are fewer options to increase resolution with consoles but the main point is this, whether PC or console, if you spend more money, whether it be a better graphics card or 1080p tv, you get higher resolution.

So tell your friend to go fly a kite and stop being jealous of your rig.

But if he made the argument that its much easier to snipe on a mouse than a controller...

The large TV, the controller vibrating, and the comfortable couch and the customization of PC gaming, the beauty you get as a result of such customization, and the idea of building your own computer and having full control over its' capability.

I have all of this with PC gaming.

Nothing about the OP really makes any sense. I am calling bullshit on it, this 'friend' of yours doesn't exist.

So was I but then he said he built his own gaming computer, so either its true and he does have this friend or he just built a gaming comp and wants to brag about it so asks this question to "prepare" for a possible question like this from a friend

Are you the OP's friend?

Nope, but if he indeed doesn't have a friend, I can identify with him because I did the exact same thing about 8 years ago, faking a friend to ask questions so as not to embarass myself.

Come on, it's ok. This is the internet, we are your friends. You're the OP's friend aren't you?:\

IMO, faster GPU and CPU don't really make the difference in gaming (of course you can cite extreme cases, but that only even applies bc PC are backwards compatible, would be akin to comparing PS1 HW vs PS3). the rest is variable in both cases, input out and output peripherals and network will all differ.

Yeah, after reading some of the posts in this thread, I thought I'd stumbled into P&N for a moment. :hmm:

+OP's post is like weird combination of a 4chan /v/ post morphed with reddit

going to be someone better-looking, with better connections, etc.

TL;DR: You said it yourself: "My friend has the consistent need to argue about everything." Obviously you have a defective friend. Replace him with someone less argumentative who can deal with real life better.

Can you RMA friends after their warrenty expires?

So what your friend is saying is... that PC gamers are better than console gamers?

I would consider buying an Xbox if I could OC it and throw in some solid state drives and replace the standard cooling and do everything else you can do with a PC.
