hahaha, me and my coworkers had this in our business trips to Asia. We sat there satisfied, and we always say something like, "We have demonstrated our complete control over the animal kingdom!" It's our battlecry whenever we try new stuff in another nation (it started when we were in Chile, and one meal required the killing of 8 separate animals haha).
Mind you, we are always with oceanographers who are passionate about their research and in the preservation of species. They are more than happy to come with us to eat exotic stuff that is quite similar to what's shown in the video. It's funny how people outside of the expertise of biology are the only ones that has beef with this.
Also, another thing to note:
Most people in Asia do get grossed out with these preparation practices as well. When I was in Korea, I could not find anyone I wanted to try raw octopus or dog. Everyone that was with me on my visits were repulsed by it. These "exotic" restaurants are actually filled with tourists who want to try these unorthodox-prepared foods.
Likewise how we have so much niche practices in the US alone that is rejected by the entire community, it's the same overseas.
