fried cpu == damaged mobo?

I just fried my first cpu while installing it into a new mobo(epox 8kha+). While testing to see if it would post (cpu, fan, ram) i left it on the foam padding that the mothboard came with. the cpu fried and now has a crack down the middle. I'm worried that the mobo could be damaged also becase there is one spot on the foam padding that is a burned and melted.
any ideas? i'm gonna get an amd xp next.

I would first figure out what went wrong with the fried system before you build another. The easiest way to see if your mobo still works would be to try it out with a processor that's compatable.

I don't think I would think of turning on my computer if I had the components laid out on some unknown foam. At least bolt the mobo in the case before firing it up, (ground wire, short circuit) comes to mind.
