Then paste into Photoshop or some other photo editing application (just not MS Paint). Then save as a JPEG (if you've got a high-detail background, like a photo) or PNG if it's simpler.

Paint will save to BMP by default, which is not good, and it doesn't really give you much choice to optimize size or quality when saving as a JPEG. Photoshop's Save for Web option is the best, IMHO.

Heh. Maybe it's because I'm on dialup, but I try to optimize for size and quality as much as possible, to be considerate to other net denizens who are unwillingly stuck on dialup like myself. ;)
