Okay, let's not delay for a second longer.

First, the obligatory link to CoolMon, the program that puts info on Windows desktops.

Second, my desktops. These haven't changed enough in the last week to warrant new pics, so I'm just gonna repost the old ones:

My gaming rig (Windows 2000 w/KDE): Low quality High quality
My workstation (Slackware Linux 8 w/KDE): Low quality High quality
My server (Mandrake Linux 8 w/Enlightenment): Low quality High quality

Finally, the comps themselves:

Server and workstation: Low quality High quality
Gaming rig: Low quality High quality

For those who are wondering, the KDE on Win2K thing is done using a Windows-native X server and a cygwin port of KDE. Works quite nicely.

Let's see yours!

BTW, if your desktop is in any way not safe for work or school, please say so. It's hard to enjoy an FDT when you have to do an "emergency kill" every other pic. :)

holy hell.. what size screen do you have? is that 1600x1200.. wow.. when i do that on my computer everything gest small and annoying and i cant read things anymore. (i have a 17 inch monitor)

it's 1600x1200 on a ultraxga laptop screen (it's native res) anything besides 1600x1200 will look like sheit

Dunno exactly what you mean. I can alt-tab to go from X to the normal windows desktop, but I rarely have any reason to do that. :D

So does Cygwin just like a program running in Windows, and is it using an Xserver (connected to another box) or does it run from files off the hdd/partition...

I THINK I know what you're asking now.

1. Cygwin is a POSIX compatibility layer, made of a DLL, the GNU tools, and a bash shell. It's kinda like a UNIX OS running on Windows.
2. The X server is a window that runs full-screen, covering up the windows desktop. it can be alt-tabbed out of when neccissary.
3. There are some X programs ported to cygwin (like KDE and xterm) that run on the local machine. I can also use software installed on the Linux boxen on the other side of the house, with their displays redirected to the windows X server. Some examples of this that you can see in that screenshot are Licq, ksirc, and Mozilla.
4. Regular windows software like Winamp, Notepad, and Windows Explorer can not be managed by KDE because they are not X clients. For those, I have to alt-tab out and use the old-fashioned method.

I hope I have explained it good enough, because that's the best explanation I can give.
