Why are they even producing players that aren't 2.0?

Profile 1.0 players are cheaper to make than Profile 2.0 players. Profile 1.1 and 2.0 movies will play on 1.0 players, but some (or possibly all) special features may not. People that do not care about having the special features offered by 1.1 and 2.0 titles could save money by buying 1.0 players.

Are the features which do not work clearly labeled on 1.0 and 1.1 boxes?

BD and the whole high-def format war have been a boondoggle from the start.

A complete standard, not privately controlled, with fully functional players from day one would have seemed like a no-brainer to win, but hey, sometimes that just doesn't happen.

I'll buy BD eventually, assuming no sea change in movie distribution, but I imagine it will be a later purchase than if HD DVD had come out on top.

The "format" war has had more spin than the Obama/Clinton race.

I don't give a flying rat's ass about profile 1.1, or 2.0. My Blu-Ray player has played the movies flawlessly since I bought it. All the other is just noise to me.

Also, now that Sony won, I suppose we'll all forget about Toshiba's fiasco in their first generation players, where a the frequency of skips, stops, and freezes was astoundingly high.

I just want high definition movies with high res audio. I don't care about menus, packaging, "attachment rates", or anything else. I love high def movies so much I just bought a second HD-DVD player for upstairs, and I'm snatching up HD-DVD movies even though the format is "dead".

I thought when Sony won some of this side chatter would dry up. I guess now, since Sony came out on top, there will be a general bashing of the winner and a fond reminiscing of the loser, despite the fact that history is being rewritten in this case.
