You Americans crack me up. Give every man woman and child a gun, put horribly violent TV shows on 24/7, you live in a country with almost no sense of morality but someone gets fired for using the C word. Funny.

LOL

yep, well, New Zealand is the beacon of hope for morality in the world

Yeah, I mean... they were never ever in any way shape or form racist to the Maoris. OMG NO.

If I listened to radio (which I don't) and if I lived in St. Louis (which I also don't), I would boycott this radio station because they fired that DJ. Everyone makes unintentional mistakes. This guy obviously did, felt bad about it, and apologized promptly. In cases like that, it is the party who refuses to forgive who is in the wrong.

ST. LOUIS - A St. Louis radio station quickly fired a talk show host for uttering a racial epithet as he talked about Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on his morning show Wednesday.

Dave Lenihan apologized on the air immediately after making what he said was a slip of the tongue. KTRS president and general manager Tim Dorsey agreed the remark was accidental but said it was nonetheless "unacceptable, reprehensible and unforgivable."

Lenihan had been heaping praise on Rice, who has frequently said she aspires to run the NFL one day but has more recently ruled out seeking to replace retiring Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

"She's been chancellor of Stanford," Lenihan said on the air. "She's got the patent resume of somebody that has serious skill. She loves football. She's African-American, which would kind of be a big my excellent compatriot. A big my excellent compatriot. Oh my God. I am totally, totally, totally, totally, totally sorry for that."

He said he had meant to say "coup" instead of the racial slur.

KTRS listeners soon began calling the station to complain. Twenty minutes after the utterance, Dorsey went on the air to apologize to Rice and KTRS listeners.

"There can be no excuse for what was said," Dorsey said. "Dave Lenihan has been let go. ... There is enough hate. We certainly are not going to fan those flames."

NAACP chapter president Harold Crumpton commended Dorsey for his swift action.

Reached at home, Lenihan said he was still trying to figure out what happened and was drafting a letter of apology to Rice. He said he never uses the slur he uttered and thinks Rice is "a fantastic woman."

Lenihan, formerly a drive-time host at WGNU radio in St. Louis, had been at KTRS for less than two weeks.

"It was my dream job," he said. "Ratings were going well. It kind of stinks."

Poor guy

I'll consider appointing him Press Secretary in January 2009

That would definitely be the NAACP....holding back Black people for decades.

Who left your cage in P&N unlocked and allowed you to escape?

Back! Back, I say, back!

Well, you can't fault the NAACP too harshly. I mean, what would happen to them if black people realized that the opportunity for true equality actually exists -- here and now -- and seized it? The NAACP would lose all reason for being. They'd be like socialists in a classless society or fascists without pariahs to blame. No organization ever works towards in own destruction, even when they claim that is their goal.

I agree with you 100%. Kind of sad that Black people think the likes of Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, Al Sharpton and the host of other Black leaders actually care about them. These idiots perpetuate racism because without it they have no voice, no power, and no free ride.

I think a big part of the reason he was fired is that he had only been working there for two weeks. Who knows, some people at the station might have not liked the guy and this just gave them an easy way to get rid of him quick before he became too popular for them to be able to.

However, even if it was your first day, I think an accidental slip like this should be forgivable, as its clear that its not what he meant, and he apologized the moment he noticed what he said (as a listener, how would you be ticked off enough to call in when the guy did that?). Not only that, but the guy was saying nothing but positive things about her, what sense would it make for him to just suddenly start spouting racial slurs about her?

What I would like to see is Condoleeza Rice catching wind of this and asking the station to rehire him.

Yeah I never hear my excellent compatriot without the ass on the back, but then again I hardly ever hear the term anyways. If they are going to do a racial slur, most people around here (Louisiana) will just say the n word. 😛

seems like a terrible over reaction to fire him. there are people who use that word freely and would never apologize. why penalize the people who mean well but make an honest slip up/ mistake? he is obviously not a redneck.

This PC crap just keeps getting more unbelievable and stupid. If he had said it in a derogatory manner, for example if he was in the process of criticizing her etc, then it might make sense. Clearly though, he was praising her. So a slip of the tongue while praising someone is now considered so terrible that the guy has to be fired. Sheesh.

well here we go again....... people getting upset because everyone isn't perfect and they make mistakes...... WOW, I sure hope that all of these people throwing the stones have replaced the panels in their glass house with lexan.......

NAACP...what a farce! they should rename that to NAABP.

i sures hell don't see red people, green people, yellow people, etc. included.

That's pretty retarded. I bet he could sue them for that bigtime. And he can probably get on another station pretty easily beacuse there's also going to be a lot of outcry on the opposite side of the story.

And that, sir, is why you are not a lawyer. Unless he had an employment contract, he was an at will employee, and could be fired at any time, unless he was fired for an illegal reason, like gender, racial, or age discrimination.

he didnt deserve to get fired. he obviously didnt mean to insult her. and he apologized. the same thing cannot be said about the DJs (miss Jones) in 97.1 here in NY/NJ who made a song insulting the tsunami victims. there was much commotion raised about that, she was suspended, and last i heard, she was allowed back on after a forced apology.
