So I downloaded Frets on Fire a while back and really enjoyed the 23 songs that came with it. But then I downloaded a pack of songs from the pirate bay (pack 3)....

That game is awesome - yeah you don't get a whammy bar, can't go head-to-head, and no unlocking songs but it is a blast. If anyone hasnt tried it, (or guitar hero and want to see what its like before dropping $100+) check it out.

You hold your keyboard like a guitar and use F1-F5 for the notes, and enter when the notes are ready to be hit. Yes - you'll look stupid, but it's awesome.

I downloaded this awhile back (before GH2 came out) and there weren't many songs available due to copyright.

I'm assuming that creating and downloading copyrighted songs for the program is still a hazy area and not necessarily legal?

You can also use the 360's Xplorer guitar that shipped with GH2 for this game. I also grabbed this a while back but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

I assume the GH3 wireless guitar would work if you have the wireless adapter? I have both but I'll admit to never even trying it.

The problem I had with Frets on Fire is the same problem I had with StepMania. I found it a pain to just find what I needed. I didn't like having huge lists of stuff to get or not simple "Here's the software. Here's some songs... more songs... and more songs." It seemed like a lot of work. I'd rather just "acquire" GH3 for the PC and hope for some modifications ;).

I hadn't thought about that, good call!!!. I also have the wireless adapter for my PC. I think I'm going to give it a try tonight.

yeah, it's prolly illegal (since i got it from bittorrent), but it was a simple pack, extract to folder, run a .bat file. and voila - 150 songs ready to go

In the version of FoF that I have (which is fairly old, as I haven't updated it in a while), there is a lefty mode.

I've had FoF for about a year now. I have my PS2 GH2 controller hooked up to my PC using a PSX to USB converter that I picked up at RadioShack like 3 or 4 years ago.

I only use it to play through GH (1, 2 and 3) songs, which I was able to rip from the PS2 discs. (FoF has a built-in function to do so)

I tried it, was pretty decent but one thing it lacks that makes GH so great is when you miss a note it cuts that part of the song out. When I played it (a few years ago) I didn't like how missing notes didn't effect how the song played. But it's free so you can't complain.

half the fun of GH is messing up a song bad and having it screech at you for missing notes.

it affects the song, at least the newer one i have does. No screech, but cuts the note off and such. sounds bad :)

it does? damn how did they do that, I know GH works because the songs are multi track so they can mute one track as needed. does the new FOF mute the whole song? sounds interesting I need to look into it.

I tried this with my 360 drums. Some songs worked great, some songs were slightly off. I'll give it another try in about a year

Thanks for the reminder... I was reading up on the Wiki for this yesterday and also checked out the FoF website (high scores, popular tracks, etc).

Looks pretty cool, I am definitely going to check it out... I also need to check out GH3 for the PC! I just finished GHII and 80s encore (medium diff.) on my PS2 last week. What a fun game, I am hooked.

:music: can't you hear me knockin' :music:

"apparently" GH3 tracks as well.

I've tried out the game, other than a few little quirks, it's all the core fun that GH is, minus the "game" per say. I've already posted my WTB thread in FS/FT looking for a GH2 controller... :)

Sorry, if I had a 360 I wouldn't be worried about this.

So I gave this a try last night with both 360 guitars, the wired from GH2 and the wireless from GH3 with the Xbox PC adapter and both worked great. I found that the songs imported from GH worked well but the custom songs didn't work as well. I guess it all depended on how the individual tabbed it out. Don't get me wrong I appreciate people working on songs and tabbing them out but I found that there was no standardization. Some songs only had a hard or amazing tab, others only had easy. That and I found that I tried some songs on easy but had to use 5 frets and other songs on hard, that I couldn't even keep up with. I figured there would be a standard like GH where easy is only 3 frets med is four and so on. For the record I'm not very good, I can pass medium but can't really hang on hard for GH. All and all pretty cool cause you can do custom songs but the timing seemed off with my PC sometimes too. My specs are below.

Not sure if I'll keep playing because the songs that worked the best I already have for the 360, I just thought it would be fun to try out some custom tracks.
