Just wondering if you are using Norton or McAfee? They can really slow down a PC.

Answer: No, BIOS update is for Hardware BIOS on your Motherboard. Fresh Installs of any Operating System will require drivers, no firmware updates.

Reinstalling the OS (Windows) will not alter your BIOS. As ch33zw1z noted, you will lose your drivers (video, audio, NIC, etc) and you will lose any chipset drivers. Sometimes the chipset drivers need to be in sync, version wise that is, with the BIOS version. Chipset drivers install like other drivers, but do not update the BIOS, just the OS.

I'm using mcafee enterprise 8.5. I use to use norton but I noticed that it really slowed down my pc even more. The slow part comes when I start my pc. It takes 2 min or more. But sometimes it's alittle faster than that. The problem started when I downloaded microsoft office 07. After that my pc started running a little funny. So I decided to uninstall the program, but the thing is it's still in my HDD. I can't seem to uninstall that damn program. It won't let me. I have office 2003 now. So, when I go to add and remove program It shows that i have office 07 and 03. Weird. I can't seem to figure out why that's happening. I'm thinking office 07 is not compatible with winxp or something. I dont know. Now I think I have to do a fresh install. I hope it's not some type of virus or trojan. I have both spyware doctor, the latest version and a program called F-secure blacklite and they come up clean. So I don't know what the hell is going on.

I like to run a program called CCleaner to clean up the drive a bit, i also run the registry cleaner.
Could give that a try as well, as checking your startup programs, in System Configuration Utility, could have a bunch ol' crap starting up.

I have that program and I did ran it. I did check the startup as well and it's fine. I have a program called hijack this. But I dont' know how to read that. I would as someone to look at it but it's too long and people won't take the time to look at it which I don't blame them for. I also have a program called registry booster as well. IT seem nothing helped.

When you say download, do you mean by a less than legitimate method? You may have just nailed yourself with spyware/malware/viruses. You can do a fresh install, but you can also save yourself the hassle of finding drivers and reinstalling stuff by running several tests on your computer, using a different antivirus, and spyware removers, etc.

All this happened when I down loaded office 2007. And I can't get rid of office 07. It's still in my add and remove section. I tried uninstalling it but it's still there. So i down loaded office 2003. So, I'm assuming it's that program or maybe some registry problem. I don't know. I hope it's not a spyware/malware/viruses. I have both lastest spyware doctor and the lastest mcafee enterprise 8.5. I do have search and destroy and lavasoft Ad-adware SE. I'll run those to see if there is anything that comes up. I aslo have a program called f-secure blacklight which I down loaded at there website. it's a trial version. once I run all those i'll give you a update.
