Fresh install of Windows XP, any guides to maximize performance?

Hey guys, I have installed many different OS's on many different PC's however I am looking for a guide to XP and tweaking it to maximize performance.. ie: deleting all the non needed crap that comes with it.

I turn off system restore, error reporting, remote assistance and leave only turning off the monitor in power management. No screensaver, no hibernation. You could also tweak your page file size.

Page file size is best left at default. I turn off system restore solely for the disk space I need. If you have disk space to spare, leave it on, as it can be a real life saver. I have hibernation and the screen saver off. My monitor is set to turn off after five minutes of idle time. Leave error reporting on. People complain when Windows has problems. Error reporting is how Microsoft becomes aware of the problems and fixes them. Make sure you get every single Windows update. Get a good antivirus program.(Norton and Mcaffee do not cut it) Get the following security programs: Ad Aware SE, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster, and Windows Defender. If you update and run all of these programs(antivirus, windows, anti spyware software) on a regular basis, your machine should be pretty much immune to any and all forms of malware. It should stay as fast as it was on the fresh install for years to come.

i created a custom install with nlite os and removed all the crap that i didn't need. another good program that let's you improve performance by altering hidden windows settings is TuneXP. it does things like defraging your boot files, forcing windows to keep explorer in the ram for a faster response and such. it's good and free.

I suppose the only people who still recommend Black Viper's tweaks are those who do not know that he is a fraud.

Lots of good stuff.
Also, some of the above suggestions are OK too.
One of these days I need to make my own XP install disc with the settings I like.
Have already found a couple programs to do this, now I just have to sit down and build the image file.
