Fresh install of mavericks?

I have lost my apple knowledge over the years, I have 10.6.8 with Windows 7 x64 running thru bootcamp. I split the 500GB HDD in half. Can I install fresh mavericks without hurting my Win 7 install?

You want to wipe 10.6.8 and install 10.9? That shouldn't be a problem, but maybe use WinClone to clone your bootcamp partition before you start.

To do a clean install, boot into the OSX Recovery partition. I think there's an option in there to recover, or you can alternatively just open the disk manager in recovery and format the OSX partition ONLY. From there, install.

I don't know which mac you have; mine is a UEFI device so I don't need to worry about backing up my windows install, as it is standalone.

Can you eleborate on this. How do I get the download of 10.9 onto a CD to be able to install fresh?

OP is running 10.6.8, so he won't have a recovery partition.

You can use this to make a USB installer.
