The French revolution was the first in Europe which shocked the then political landscape. It paved the way for reformers to create the democratic world we now live in. The Soviet Revolution was an outcropping of that.

The effects of the French Revolution we are still seeing today; the majority of the Bolshevik revolution's influence died in Dec. '91

The French Revolution was a direct inspiration for the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia. Lenin, Trotsky and associates were well aware of the ideas put forth during the early 1800s.

Also keep in mind that the ideas of the Bolshevik Revolution are even present in the political plan of the neoconservatives in America. The idea of the "domino theory" originally put forth by Paul Wolfowitz is heavily influenced by Trotskian ideas.

Yes, the French Revolution was a necessary event that probably helped to cause the Bolshevik Rev. No, the ideas of the Bolsheviks have not been forgotten. In fact, many Bolshevik ideas are the cornerstones of much of the expansionist policies of the present day United States.

Sorry - the American revolution was bigger than both of these. America's "enlightened" rebellion, based on a document heavily inspired by Locke and Rousseau, inspired the French to rise up against their despot.
