Macron campaign team used honeypot accounts to fake out Fancy Bear

https://arstechnica.com/security/20...sed-honeypot-accounts-to-fake-out-fancy-bear/

"The bait documents may have caused the attackers to rush their efforts. As Ars reported Monday, the eventual dump of documents by the attackers included metadata showing Russian versions of Microsoft Office were used to edit some documents, and the name of an employee of a company providing information security services to Russian intelligence organizations was in document metadata showing the last person to edit at least nine documents."

- Ouuups!

The hilarious bit is that I know at least one person on this forum who swallowed the MacronLeaks story hook, line and sinker, without questioning the authenticity of the claims or the motivations behind them. He was even sure this wasn't a hack, and that the (non-existent) mole who leaked it must surely be dead as part of an evil, evil conspiracy.

This is why skepticism is useful, folks.

The difference wasn't the "Russian hacking" it was that Macron was a good candidate and Hillary Clinton was a poor one. At some point you need to stop excusing away her defeat on deus ex machina factors like the Russkies and just admit that Hillary herself beat Hillary.

Yes you are partially correct however this thread is about Russian hacking in France. I fail to see how it involves Hillary.

Clinton was an infinitely better candidate than Trump, just tarnished enough that it hurt her chances. And whether or not you think the DNC hack actually influenced the election, it was still a Russian attempt to skew the results.

Because if they can, somehow, mention Hillary Clinton, then it acts as a distraction about what Strongman Trump's team knew, when they knew it, and whether they collaborated.

That's why out of the blue, Clinton has always and will always be brought up.

After Donald begged for it, of course.

It was clever of Macron's people to set a trap & even more clever for the French to learn from our Donald debacle.
