<< That being out of the way, i have to make a sad constatation : French democracy is in bad shape
REALLY bad shape
>>

Why? Because the Socialist candidate lost to the right-wing candidate ? I'd say that's an improvement in the French condition, although a small step.

<< The only pro free market one barely got 3% >>

This IS france we're talking about, remember? Not like Milton Friedman is running for office over there. The best you can probably hope for is someone who is less of a socialist/communist than the alternative.

Actually this is scary to me. I see parts of Europe headed back to far right extreme ideas. The anti-semeticism latley has been astounding. All we need now is Le Pen starting this immigration bullsh!t. Next thing we know austria is with them and then eastern germany. Hell throw Bosnia in there and with the current mideast situation WWIII isn't out of the question.

I wonder how things will stack up. Who will be fighting who. I think the main problem is that extreme ideas never to create the ideals they preach. They breed contempt for someone. Someone to blame for society's ills or for a current situation. I think France better elect some leftwing candiates to balance Le Pen if he wins in the run-off. He probably will. Chirac doesn't exactly have a broad base of support.
