As a preambule, if you don't care just forget you ever entered in that thread in the first place .......

That being out of the way, i have to make a sad constatation : French democracy is in bad shape :disgust:
REALLY bad shape election results (CNN) :disgust:

Either french politicians are corrupted, or ineficient or some kind of loony extremists ........ The only pro free market one barely got 3% :disgust:
I whish i was living in the US ...........

I am just disgusted right now.

LOL!

I'm entitled, I took four years of French in high school.

Great culture, great people, great food . . . it just seems like they always have trouble with government. I think it's difficult to get stability and continuity in any form of government when you have soooo many specialized political parties. (something like 30-40 in France, IIRC).

why only 3%? Le Pen describes himself right (economically), doesn't that mean he is also pro freemarket?

Most jokes are funny because there's an element of truth to them. If you've got some jokes about America in a similar vein, go for it.

I was talking about Alain Madelin ....

Le pen is not really pro freemarket, more some kind of corporatist economic model. Besides his social opinions are a real problem.

Shivers went down my spine when they showed a part of an interview of an far-left candidate. She said "It should be illegal for companies to fire employees. We should go after the profits of the companies. If they refuse to cooperate, we should take them over"

I think that lefties and communists are seriously delusional and naive.

Ohhh.....the French sympathizer is getting his feelings hurt. It's ok, don't worry I'm sure everyone only jokes about the French because we are all so deeply jealous of them. I've spent time in France, didn't like it. I found the Parisians to be as rude as they are always portrayed to be and perhaps even worse. While at a hotel one night a French family with 3 kids was making all kinds of noise in the lobby while the group I was with were having a meeting. I walked over and very politley asked if they could keep it down a bit. How did they respond? The wife started yelling at me in French and the father started screaming at me that "You Americans are so rude and ignorant. You have no culture, you have no history and yet you come here and try to tell us what to do." I stood there and let him yell and an audience gathered with many of them taking his side. Remember all I had done was ask them to stop yelling in the lobby. When they were finsihed yelling at me my reply was "that all may be true, but if it wasn't for us you'd all be speaking German right now." Then I turned and walked off. That was just one example of the BS I ran into while over there. As far as I'm concerned France could fall into the ocean and I wouldn't be one bit upset.

ah, yes, now I see shiner.

So let me use your way of thinking for a second.

I went to the US and I ran into some dirty hicks that were rude and spoke with a drawl. So that means all Americans are like that and I do not care if those those dirty inbred hicks (which is to say, all americans) sink in the ocean and disapear off the face of the earth.

Turnout was low by French standards, with less than three-quarters of those eligible turning out to vote. Many voters, dissatisfied with the expected choice between Chirac and Jospin, decided to stay home.

Wow, compared to us their voter turnout is incredible.

If you met SOME people like that then I suppose you could make that assumption. However EVERY Frenchman I met was like that. Never met a single person there that wasn't rude and condescending. Unlike most citizens of the other countires in Europe that I spent time in(England, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany, The Netherlands) I found the French to be incredibly rude, condescending, and just generally wastes of flesh.

Nice try but the vote counting in Florida was fair. You just bought into the spin the Gore camp put on things when they threw a hissy fit because they couldn't get only counties that were heavily Democrat leaning to be recounted. They never wanted things to be fair, they wanted things to be advantageous to them.

Apparently socialism is no longer radical enough for some of the French. I can't believe so many voted for a Fascist.

I believe Austria(?) got some serious sanctions from the EU when they elected a radical right a couple of years ago.

No, that is the great thing about America. As long as we don't threaten death to an individual, or yell fire in a crowded theater, we can say what we want, and we may piss people off, but it's our right and we love it.
