Hey guys I got the PM on the ATI 9600 too. But, it might be going back...

I just installed it (it's replacing a Ti4200) and the 3DMark2001SE marks are MUCH lower than I got with my "old" Ti4200. I get ~9,400 marks with the 9600 and I used to get ~13,000 with the Ti4200.

I thought the 9600 would be an upgrade from the Ti4200. Was I mistaken?

Thanks.

Oh yeah, this is installed on a EPoX 8RDA+ (nForce2 based) motherboard.

No, actually, that makes sense. Like most of the new GF FX cards, the Radeon 9600 only has 4 pixel pipelines. Older cards (Radeon 8500, I think) had 8 pixel pipelines. The older GF4 Ti4200 has 8 pixel pipelines, but most of the newer GF FX cards only have 4. Granted, all of these new cards support DX9 effects, while the other ones do not. But for older, DX7/DX8-era games, the sheer overall number of raw pixel pipelines makes the most performance difference in the GPU, along with the card's overall memory bandwidth.

You would probably be better off with a Radeon 9500/9800, or even an 8500.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Would the 9600 perform better than the Ti4200 in the new 3DMark2003 which, I believe, uses the features of DX9?

Ahhhh, how sweet it is. Went in to BB, Price matched 2 things I bought before hand with no hassle. Then went and retrieved 2 other items that were ahhhh, misplaced on the shelves 🙂(my guess is by some troublemaker avoiding the loss control guys on tuesday night - LOL - but thats just a guess 🙂 ) - then went and checked out with them as well.

What the hell ever.

The point I'm trying to make, which you nimrods seem to have missed, is not that you can't pricematch, or that you shouldn't be allowed to. It's not that you cant get a good deal.

It's that you shouldn't be crying because someone else got a better deal than you did, or because they beat you to it.

Mop up your f*cking milk and stop your goddamned whining, you damn crybabies.

The people that work at the store, if allowed to purchase the items, are just as entitled to buy them as your bitch ass is.

Let me reiterate this point:

Their money is just as green as yours is.

>.<

Still not sour enough for you?

I invite you openly to reply, so I can thrash you just a bit more with my clear and concise point.

yeah I was thrashed

the only one seeming to WHINE here is you....take a look around, the rest of us are REALLY trying to take you seriously, but laugher prevales.....now excuse me I must clean the beer off my keyboard....nice joke.

Hmm, let's see... was I talking to you?

No.

Learn to read and draw proper conclusions.

If you != the one complaining about employees puchasing items

then

I was != talking to you

So no, you didn't get thrashed. Your game was too damn weak for me to even acknowledge with a reply in the first place. Don't get it twisted and think your input was actually worth half a sh!t.

Got a question for you guys. I know that it's not a good idea to get a price match receipt mainly because it has the original date and not the sales date on the receipt. When I did my return/repurchase today though, the CSR at BB rang it so it says "exchange" on the top of the receipt with todays date and has the items that I returned at the top (3 items that I bought earlier this week at full price) and then it has the sale listed below with the new prices of each item. At the very bottom it has the difference in what BB owes me. It almost looks like I returned 3 items and bought 3 items in its place. The only thing is that it's the same 3 items that were returned and repurchased.

Do you guys think that I will have a problem with the rebates with this receipt? All of the rebate receipts printed along with all of the forms. It also has todays date instead of the original date listed at the top. I don't see why not, but I don't want to risk this money in rebates.

TIA,

Sal

Well now that the BF has come and gone, I can say that this is a pointless argument. I got in on the Lite-on deal, bought two days in advance, went at 11:30am to pricematch. No problems at all. Even if BB wanted to close the customer service desk, they would be afraid to create an agry mob of customers in need of customer service. Cheers to the good deals we got.

Salvador,
I was wondering the same thing. I got an exchange receipt as well. Anyone have an answer for his question?

The exchange reciept should not make a difference, they still were purchased and the rebate companys have to honor the rebates. If they dont, raise hell.

I would imagine that it wouldn't make a difference. I did get a pricematch receipt one year and I can see where that might be a problem because it has the original purchase date on it and not the date of the sale. This receipt has todays date on it and the rebate forms printed out, so I can't see a problem.

If anyone else knows otherwise, please let us know.

Thanks again.

Sal

ok...

if you are near any best buy that is anywhere decent, then no, the employees did not get any chance at all to buy the black friday sale stuff. and no, our best buys customer service desk was not open before 12. and no, our black friday sales items were NOT available before 6 am today. and yes, we did give out coupons to all those looking for high ticket items that were lined up outside our store since 3 am this morning. and no, no matter how much hell you raised, you were not going to get any "special" treatment. you are not any better or worse then the rest of our customers. and best buy is private property. try raising hell and you will be booted so fast you will feel like max payne in his dream levels on both his games (game one and game 2 😉) and yes, we were regulating customers being able to enter the computer department so that no customers can say "i should get that system because i was here first." and i've been reading this thread for an hour now so if i didnt answer any open ideas/thoughts/arguements, please dont hesitate to ask.

by the way, these are my thoughts and opinions and are not in behalf of best buy.

Thanks for the reply.

I just ran 3DMark03 on the 9600 and got 2,600. I then ran it with the Ti4200 and got 1,600. So, do I keep the Ti4200 because of its superior DX8 capabilities (13,000 on 3DMark2001SE, beating the 9600 by 3,600) or keep the 9600 because it's superior with DX9?

I guess it boils down to: a pretty high end DX8 card vs. a middle of the road DX9 (and also a middle of the road DX8) card.

Is it worth the 70 bucks?

Certainly. In fact, some (most) of the tests in 3DMark2003 use some or all of the new features in DX9, and the Ti4200 won't even be able to complete those tests, thus its score will be a bit truncated, so to speak.

Not to mention, BestBuy's fairly recent policy about denying store rebates, for items that were also pricematched. I think I recall Circuit City doing something similar, very recently, reducing the amount of store rebates by the amount of coupon or pricematch discounts. (Don't recall exactly, but I read about it on one of the threads here at ATHD.)

People hanging out here remember the GeForce3 Ti 200 two T-givings ago? Then after that GeForce4 Ti 4200?

Those were upgrades.

I stayed out of it this year since the only upgrade to GeForce4 Ti worth it would be the Radeon 9800. Anything in beween is simpy not worth the $ and hassle.

These games coming up we thought our cards couldn't handle? They'll be DirectX 7 compatible. It was all hype to make us spend hundreds of $ on video cards.

GeForce3's will be able to handle them. GeForce4 Ti's can handle them easy since GeForce4 Ti are better than GeForce FX5200 ultras.

Also, as the 4 MX cards are worse than GeForce3s, that's the only way the 9600 Radeon would have been worth it, if you owned a GeForce4 MX, but Ti's? I'm holding on to Ti4200 until next Thanksgiving, maybe they'll have a Radeon 9800 class card sale then...

Uhh....the new DX9 games coming out are going to run like doggie doo on a Ti4200. A Radeon 9600 Pro and XT (I have an XT), and GeForce 5700 and higher would all be great upgrades. My 9600 XT scored 2000 higher (7394) on 3DMark than my Ti4200 did, and the Gunmetal demo (a DX9 benchmark) ran litterally TWICE as fast on my XT vs my 4200 (23 FPS average vs. 54 FPS). I guess you're going to have to wait until Halflife 2 to come out to see what we mean

I do agree though, the plain Radeon 9600 isn't much of and upgrade over the TI4200 in terms of speed.

How does the 9600 compare to the 9500 Pro though? Just curious..

I bought the GF3 Ti200 two years ago and the GF4 Ti4200 last year. I also found a great deal on the 9500 Pro over the summer, so I bought one of those. Oh.. I also just bought the 9600 from this years deal. Not sure what to do with it yet though. It may become a gift to a less fortunate family member that is dealing with a poor GF2 MX card.

yup..bought the gf4 4200 last year's BB BF sale. i skipped this year's 9600np sale since hl2 isnt out. but when that baby turns gold (hoprefuilly April 2004) then i'll upgrade to best bang at that time. (hopefully 5900np for $125)

HEY GUYS AND GALS, I ENJOYED READING ALL THE COMMENTS, AND I LEARNED A LOT. I WAS JUST THINKING --TOMORROW (SUNDAY) I WILL BE GOING TO CHURCH, AND SOMEDAY ON JUDGEMENT DAY THERE WILL BE SOME BIG LINES WAITING TO GET INTO HEAVEN, AND I WANT TO MAKE SURE I AM IN THE RIGHT LINE. I DO NOT MEAN THIS TO BE A JOKE, BUT MY BROTHER DIED TWO WEEKS AGO AND IT MAKES ME REALIZE HOW SHORT LIFE IS., AND I JUST DUSTED OFF MY BIBLE AND REALIZE I WILL ONLY GET THERE BY HIS "AMAZING GRACE". DAYS LIKE "BLACK FRIDAY" CAN WAKE YOU UP. THANKS, RICHARD

What a commie.
The American people are not intelligent enough nor do they have the fine training required to understand what is best for the country. We had to get involved in an illegal war and we needed to lie about the reasons because we have the power to take what is to our advantage. That's why a hidden group has seized power and is wielding it in our interests. Trust me, you are too dumb to understand.

BTW, you'll want to go ATI for HL2. Read any reviews?

Lastly, if you're that concerned about price matches, go buy the onsale item, and return the item you bought, say, for example, last week... d0y! Last week I bought the MAG 19'' LCD that BB had on sale Friday, so I bought the onsale one, and returned it the next day with the receipt from last week... Again, d0y!

maybe im just really tired, but this doesnt make any sense to me in the context of this thread. if im reading this right, you misunderstood why people are price matching on friday. they are buying the bf items in advance, and trying to price match on black friday to get the cheap price. instead of waiting in line for hours the morning of black friday, and maybe not getting one anyway because other people will grab them first.

I just waited for everyone to enter and followed in and grabbed 1 of the $4.99 350VA I will use only for my DSL modem, wireless router, and cordless phone...should give me at least the same backup at the SmartUPS1250(1400VA) on my PC.

The thing that sucked is once you got in if you were going to the computer section there was a new line. They were only letting in an allotted amount of people at a time. I asked a guy why, he said due to pretty major fights last year. The whole store was a fire trap though, they had a lot of 'dead ends' and queueing going on.

Å

i was on the news!! channel 2 or 9. my housemate saw me. hahaha. i camped out overnight. got there at 11pm. was still like the 12th person in line though. pretty sad. i picked up one of everything. 🙂

the only sad thing is that some moron customer ran up one of those portable stair things and started handing out the samsung lcd's to people that didn't have vouchers. then a bestbuy employee kicked him off that thing and continued handing them out. so .... i didn't get an lcd. but i have a raincheck with them for the same model ... which should be coming in next week. which sucks because i'm driving back up to school tomorrow. i wonder if i have my parents pick it up next week ... if they'll just sell it to me for 279 since some of the rebates are invalid then.
