Freezer no longer making ice cubes

Something happened, probably the flap on the door where the ice comes from the ice tray was open. The area around this opening all the way to the back looked frosted up. But the actual ice maker in the freezer and the ice tray had a good 3 inch block of ice covering and binding them together. After chipping away at the ice it's all gone. But no more makey icey.

I can only assume it's not getting water and the water line froze up? I can remove the ice maker but would assume I need to turn off the water line first. Any thoughts?
 
The water line for those usually comes from a small plastic or metal hose from nearby plumbing, usually the kitchen sink. Make sure it isnt stopped up or kinked
 
Did you turn the temperature down to try and defrost it? Some ice makers won't make ice unless it's cold enough in the freezer.
 
There should be a metal, looped bar extending into the ice compartment. Did you inadvertently push it all the way up (off)?

This has a plastic arm to act as the stop but I'll double check. Haven't tried to defrost, it's plenty cold. Think I'm going to shut the water off and pull the maker, then put some paper towels under the supply and turn on briefly just to see if it's getting water. The maker has an on/off electronic switch and LED - I turned it off for maybe 5 hours while trying to chip the iceblock away. Maybe I should not have done that and there is some kind of heater for the supply that keeps it from freezing.

What puzzling is the big block of ice that surrounded the maker and tray, don't know if it got really frosted or if water leaked somehow to make the big block.
 
I'd definitely let the freezer portion completely thaw, then plug it back in, but first look to see if cube ejector (looks like the tines of a garden rake) is rotating. It'll rotate slowly so you might have to look at its position then come back in five minutes to check it again.

If it isn't rotating something is fubar in the motor.

 
Well, found the trouble. Not only was the supply line frozen it was ruptured where it met the maker. That would explain the big chunk of ice surrounding the maker/tray.

Word to the wise - pull your refrigerator every few years and clean. It was pretty gnarly back there. Thanks for the help.
