Freezer 7 Pro

I just purchased a Freezer 7 Pro and replaced the stock cooler. I running a Intel 2160 @ 2.8 on a GA-P35-DS3L. I installed F7P per the instructions included and cleaned the old paste off well.

My problem is the Freezer 7 is running 10-15 degrees hotter than the stock cooler running Orthos CPU testing software. I checked to make sure the plugs are fully pushed in and they are. I did leave the MX-1 paste on.

Any ideas?

Did you install the F7Pro with the motherboard removed from the case? If not, that's the proper way. Your temps should be at least 10C cooler, over the stock cooler.

What do you mean by "I did leave the MX-1 paste on."?

You should clean off any paste that was on the CPU and was on the F7 (I think you did this but that last sentence makes me unsure). Then apply just a rice sized bit of paste on there. Too much paste will actually insulate your cooler so it will do more harm than no paste.

Freezer pro comes witx MX-1 per aplied, i think thats what he meant. MX-1 is ga good paste, bu if you will reseat the HSF you must clean and apply a new paste.

There's no need to reseat the heatsink. Just remove the motherboard from the case, and finish pushing the pins on it down. That's obviously what he needs to do, since his temps actually went up, instead of down.

I'm guessing its not seated correctly.
I installed the same heatisnk once and left one corner not all the way punched down.
I got the same results.
Had to remove the board and make sure it was pushed all the way down.

Also on the freezer 7 its easy to turn a pin the wrong way, it will still push down, but won't lock in place.

As has been said, the cooler is probably not totally seated. I have a Freezer 7 and am very familiar with it. Mounting it is a 2-step process. First, the white feet have to go into the holes, then the black pegs must be pushed down pretty hard until you hear and feel a solid "click."

Also, possibly there's a CPU fan control utility (MB utility) that is controlling your fan, and the "trip temp" is set too high? The EasyTune utility on my Gigabyte P965-DS3 is like that. You can set the "full speed" temp way high and the fan won't do much until the CPU hits 60C if you set it that way.

Thanks for the advice. The Freeze 7 must not be seated correctly.
I will remove the Motherboard and try to get the heatsink totally seated. If that doesn't work then I will remove the Freezer 7 clean the HS and CPU and apply Arctic Silver 5.

Yes I think that one of the 4 pins are not pushed down correctly. I also installyed a AF7 and hated the 4 push pins design. Some people love it but I never find it to be easy to handle. Check the 4 push pins, it's 99% one of these that's loose, also make sure you got the fan running. I actually left the fan plug out once during installtion of TUniq, since that thing is so enormous, luckily didn't do much damage to the chip. But check the fan, most likely it's the pins.

You are correct! I had to remove the motherboard (what a pain) but I found one push pin not seated through the hole in the motherboard. Problem fixed and the temperature is looking good now.

Thanks for your help.

The push-pin mounting mechanism for the CPU is a very poor design by Intel.

This can solve the problem.

You will never have to worry about push-pins not being securely mounted again.
It is compatible with Freezer 7 pro.

You can get it from here as an example.

To avoid having to remove the motherboard every time you need to install or remove or re-seat the cooler, you can use the method described here.

yea i hate the push pin mounting mechanism. i had trouble mounting my f7P too.. i hope one of them doesn't pop off at any time...

^^ thats a good idea, but it'd help us understand what to do a lot better if u had some pics 😉

I don't know why people are having so much problem installing these.

First detach the fan, it's a lot easier; the instructions suggests this. Pop the corners in and then turn. That's it.

That is pretty cool, thanks for the information

I just bought this same cooler for my quad. Im glad I read this as now I know what to expect when I install it. Is it a good cooler though? I found it on sale for $21 and it got good reviews. I also bought some Arctic sulver 5. Should I use this or is the cpu cooler paste just as good?

The MX-1 that comes pre-applied is better than AS5. Not only that, it also doesn't ever need to be reapplied, like AS5 does.

Leave it alone and install.
If you don't get good results, you can remove, clean and re-apply.

What I don't like about the compound that comes pre-applied with coolers is that they put too much of it!
The compound is good. But, the amount is not right!

What should I expect from this Freezer 7? Is it as good as the Tuniq Tower or other high end coolers? I couldnt find many reviews that compared it with other high end coolers. Only compared to stock vs. the freezer.

It is not a high end cooler. It is not really in the same league as a ultra 120 or a tuniq tower. Those are the high end coolers while the AC7pro is a mid-level cooler that is a good replacement for stock if you are not going to be doing any high overclocks (depending on your CPU).

This is only my opinion

Ultra-120 extreme:
Very big, very heavy, almost silent (120mm fan) Easy to lap

Freezer pro 7:
Small, light (meeting spec), very loud at max RPM, very difficult to lap, you will lose 5% from your overclock ceiling compared to U-120 extreme

Cooler Master Hyper TX2:
Small and light like freezer, very quiet even at max RPM, very easy to lap, you will lose 5% overclock ceiling compared to Ultra (same as freezer).

I use the Cooler Master. The main reason I did not like my Ultra-120 extreme was its size and weight.
The reason I do not like my freezer is that when I play a game, it cranks up the RPM and becomes loud.

I have no problem with my TX2 mounted this way.

Myocardia@ what do you mean that AS5 needs to be reaplied? Does it wear off fast? I currently have Zalman ZM-STG1 Super Thermal Grease, i found it to be a bit better than AS5 for my quad. How fast does Zalman ZM-STG1 wear off?
