Freezeing out of no where?!

I just built a comp and it just freezes just out of no where...happens in Bios, Windows, at random spots... sometimes it just not turn on the monitor until a few reboots...

I'm thinking it's the hard drive... any other thoughts?

---SOrry for 2 threads... but the other one is kind of messed up, can't get into it

Definatly NOT the hard drive. If you can get the memory test to run and it checks out fine I would be looking at the processor next. You don't mention what type of processor you are using but whatever it is you should have thermal paste between the processor and heatsink. If you are not sure what that is please read more in these forums. Did you load the operating system? Did it lock up then? You say the monitor will not come on sometimes unless you reboot several times? Need more info.

Ok, comp is...

Inwin matx case w/ 180watt psu
Asus A7N266-VM
Duron 850
SVC GC68 w/ Arctic Silver 3
256 pc2100
Seagate 5400rpm 20gb
4x4x24x HP CDRW
Floppy
Windows XP pro

System locks up out of no where and then monitor flashes/blinks a little about once every 5 seconds

Bios Update

Sorry I haven't been back, been pretty busy. 😱
I put a link to the newest bios flash. Try it first because it won't cost you anything and if you call Asus that will be a question they will ask right off the bat. Seeing as how the computer doesn't have a habit of crashing in any particular spot, just random, I would suspect a faulty power supply. I have used many of the style cases (180W MATX) and have seen my fair share of power supplies that seemed to be fine but really not kicking out a steady flow of juice to the components. You know how picky AMD is with power supplies! I have always built P4 or Celeron systems in those cases. I have also used the motherboard you have and haven't had any problems out of it at all. Seems like a decent budget workstation board. Is the processor new? Has it been working in another system?
