Freeze Up Trouble

Basically my computer has been acting up the last 6 months. My computer will lock up about every half hour or so for a few minutes. It usually happens when I open a new program but it can happen at any random moment. I stopped overclocking everything, turned all my fans up to high and I still get these freeze ups. In addition to this about every week my computer will say I need a disk check at start up. This leads me to think that my hard drive is failing with my second guess being the motherboard and the third being the video card. I was running my A64 3000 at 2.7 for a year, my memory was at 2-2-2-8 @ ~250mhz 3.2v and thats 4x512. The motherboard was running at a 300 bus speed. The video card was overclocked significantly as well. My point is anything could have burned up. The hard drive is about 2 1/2 years old now, its a 160gb samsung spinpoint ata. When the computer is overclocked it runs the same as when I have it running normally which confirms my hard drive guess even further. I also get lots of errors when windows runs disk checks.

Looking to isolate the part here and maybe some suggestions on a new part.

Could you be a little bit more descriptive ?
It goes off ( restarting before even seeing the loading bar ? ), it's reporting something like "Wrong boot device" ? "NTLDR is missing or corrupted" ?
