freeware to cut jpg into html

SelArom

Senior member
is there a free software program to take a jpg and slice it into parts and create the html layout the way that illustrator/photoshop does? I already have the image laid out the way I need it, i just need a way to cut it. I have the original ai files as well, so if it can import illustrator that would be great, but I also have the jpgs.

if such a thing can be done, I'd appreciate any suggestions.

thanks!

i'm sorry I should have clarified what I needed. I realize that I can slice in an editing tool, what I need is a freeware editor that can do this. I have been using paint.net and it works great but does not have this tool. I've found a few standalone image cutters but I'm not sure if any are good/bad/spyware, so I'm asking if anyone has any specific suggestions for software that can do this

thank you

what are some of the "standalone image cutters" that you have found? I really have no idea what you are talking about.

By the way, The GIMP would be the closest open source thing to Photoshop, and Inkscape would be the closest open source thing to Illustrator. Though I don't see what kind of "cutting" you would want to do that Paint.NET couldn't handle.

i dont remember any off hand, I googled and found few results, but i dont know if they are any good.

basically i just need something where I can define cut points, like horizontally, vertically, and have the image split automatically into separate files, just like illustrator does. Im using the illustrator trial for now but i only have 30 days for that 🙁

i'll take a look at inkscape, thanks

what he is talking about is this:

In Photoshop there is a slice tool that you can make basically add combo of horizontal and vertical cuts (lines) on your image. Then Photoshop will automatically separate all the partitions into different image files, there is no cropping and worrying about if i did one pixel too many and such. It is really a great little tool.

To answer the OP:

You can use gimp+plugin to do it or so it says.

aaah, now I get it. And nice find Lord Banshee with that guillotine plugin, assuming it works the way it says.
