I have access to the full version at work and the freeDV does blow. There is a list of what is NOT included compared to the other versions and it pretty much just barely allows you to open a file and change the overlay color and add text.

Oh, and I should mention that Opera comes with an excellent built-in mail client, M2. Doesn't have the flasy bells and whistles of some of the bigger programs, but it's great at what it does, and I don't really need more than that. Definitely worth a try.
 
For file compression, check out IZArc. It supports about 40 different file types including rar & 7zip. The newest version also has the right click context extract for SFX archives.

Thanks for the tip. I installed it and I'll use it for a while (comparing it to my current fav, Alzip). It seems to be pretty good so far. Clean, fast, and no ad banner like Alzip.
 
Here is a nice program if you do video editing (for home movie creation)
WinMorph. WinMorph is for morphing. You can use the output in your home videos!!


and for creating PC based software training or demo

I have downloaded it couple of days ago, not really started using it.

(Do not forget about MovieMaker 2.0 from Microsoft, for video editing)

Nice utility to remove all those unnecessary programs from various locations of windows start up. Startup Control Panel

Thanks for the suggestions on the video editing software. I'll have to take a look at those.

I don't think we really need to list an mp3 player considering that really common software such as Winamp, WMP, Real One, MMJ, and probably even Quicktime can all play them. Windows also comes with MSConfig to help you remove start up items.

To play DVDs, you need a decoder or something that costs money to license. So unless you have software like PowerDVD or WinDVD that comes with decoder, free DVD players can't play DVDs. Fortunately, PowerDVD comes with just about everything now: video cards, DVD drives, DVD burners, etc. I have 2 copies of PowerDVD XP, a copy of PowerDVD 2.0 (I might've thrown this away), and a copy of WinDVD 4.
 
Well, since you have PowerDVD installed, pretty much any media player can play DVDs now. You can even use Windows Media Player if you want. One of my favorite media players is BSPlayer.

I agree with your comment, but "viri" means "man" in Latin. The word you are looking for is viruses. 😉
