great thread... just found out I was using an old version of GIMP. The UI has certainly improved.. but still not quite PS

Well I was going to reinstall Nero 5 onto my PC (still may, yes its a legit copy) but I wanted to see what was out there just to burn ISO images as that's what I usually use Nero for. Found this program called burnatonce seems to be a pretty solid program that works well. Currently burning Mandrake 10 with it 🙂. If you just want to burn ISO images and want a simple program for that (supports .cue files as well) then you might want to give it a shot.

Damn... just realized I was gonna suggest CDRWin, but it's shareware, not freeware. Still, as long as you don't mind being limited to your lowest burning speed it's nice software.

Creative House Expression 3 (Vector Drawing Software)

Creature House Expression? 3 is an innovative vector-based illustration and graphics tool that provides exciting creative capabilities for designers working in print, web, video, and interactive mediums.

...a free download version is available to existing users of the product for either Microsoft Windows or Mac OS. Follow the Download link to complete the registration survey and download the software.

I saw that posted in Hot Deals, but it seems to only be for existing users, although anyone can download it.

This may have been mentioned, but PDFCreator (sourceforge or freshmeat) can make PDF's too. It's free and easy to use.

Under programming/text editors, I have found syn to be GREAT http://syn.sourceforge.net/. I think it wholly beats out Crimson Editor. The "click anywhere" thing is annoying at first, but you get used to having to click in the actual right spot and just hit the [End] key. It automatticalyl trims trailing spaces which is nice. It has syntax highlighting for everything in the world, INCLUDING "MultiHTML". IT's feature list is really really long. Anyway, check it out, as it made it's way onto my thumbdrive under cool apps.

you could always use the ultimate boot cd and customize it with floppy images. Getting the right images is the hard part.. after that, just make sure to make backups of floppy images so you can edit later.

Anyone mention TheOpenCD yet? Neat collection of Windows based opens source applications.
