are there any simple, freeware, prefferably open source frontpage like web site creaton programs? I am sick of frontpage generating all of those useless junk folders and files. I still need something that can create photo galleries, similar but less bloat when compared to something like this and create book marks on pages similar to this.

a feature that is easy to use as front page's navigation structure for making navigation bars would be nice too.

thanks.

Well I never have used frontpage so I don't know what exactly it does for you and all the features. I suppose it does things like upload stuff onto ftp servers and such, but I wouldn't use that anyways. I prefer to run it on the locale machine and just upload the entire thing when I am finished.

But if you want something quick, check out Openoffice.org, their web editor generates pretty nice code which is easy enough to edit later with a text editor. They designed the code to be read by humans, more or less.

But if your looking for more of a IDE type thing for experianced web designers, I know bluefish is highly regarded.

Otherwise just check out http://freshmeat.net/ and search thru there. I figure that since for web design open source already provides the dominate servers OSes, web server, and dynamic scripting languages you ought to be able to find something that will suite you without much headaches.

But if you need something that may have features that frontpage has thru the tight integration with IIS (just gessing.) you'll have a harder time thru freeware...

Not too sure. Not much of a web master... But that bluefish looks ok. Used it a little bit, but vim does everything I need.

OpenOffice can export to fairly decent html as well if your needs are simple. What is really cool is that you can export things as flash (like a presentation).

(openoffice fan here)

Actually for what you're showing in those two links, all you really need is notepad. NVu works, OO works, FrontPage2000 works... but all you need is notepad and a browser.
