Freeware for MS Access?

My g/f is a GRA at Auburn University and she is responsible for all of the band students. The problem is they MS Access for the database so she is having to drive up to school every time the prof e-mails her any changes that need to be made ASAP which is rediculous. Through the school she can buy access for like $150 but for grad students that's alot not to mention she might not be doing this for more than one semester. Is there any freeware app she can use to log in from home without buying access herself?

MSDNAA, if she is eligible, Microsoft Access will probably be free (at least it was for me).

If what Shadenfroh suggested isn't feasible, you can use OpenOffice's database application(I can't remember the name off hand) then save the data in .mdb format. It's a little slower than using Access, but it's still quicker than going out for a drive.

Also check with your friends and family. Someone may have an old copy of Access laying around that they aren't using. I use Access 2000, because I don't need to work with databases much, and this works as well for me as a newer version would.

She needs to determine which version of Access they are using.

There are at least three file flavors

'97, 2K and 2003.

The older versions can be read by the newer ones, but I know that the '97 can not use a 2K MDB file.

Since she has the responsibilty of doing the updates and they expect to be
done from say, her laptop or her home, then I would ask the Teacher of the
class she is doing the work for, to provide her with the program at no cost.
Otherwise, it would be done on the school computer, on school time.

Write a VB program for her so she can edit it w/o access.
