Doom Machine

which is best, all i know of is adaware and spybot, i only want 1 installed, i'm not big into having lots of stuff installed nor am i paranoid, i also dont want any of the ones that needs or forces to run at startup

i only want 1 installed
There is no reason not to have Spybot, adaware, Microsoft WIndows Defender, and Spywareblaster installed at the same time. Some catch things that they others dont. The only one that actually runs in realtime is Microsoft defender and even then it does not take up much resources.

i know but thats rediculous, even if some get by that i dont notice, then i dont really care
theres nothing sensitive on my pc, nor do i think my life would turn into an X files movie with men in black showing up at my door...if i was to be that paranoid i might as well cover my house in tin foil to block the governments mind control rays

i just want 1 basic simple that works good without services running all the time, i know spybot and adaware dont but dont know which one catches more on an average

The only one that I listed that has services running all the time is Windows Defender. Spybot and Spywareblaster have passive prevention that neither have services nor take up system resources. Adaware's free version is scanner/remover only, no prevention measures.

i just have two. ad-aware and spybot - search and destroy. i just run them once a week. they take up very little room and are definitely user-friendly. that catches around 99% of my spyware. they dont load at startup either.

i would have installed just 1 (ad-aware), but spybot catches all the other spyware which adaware doesnt get.

i also tried out microsoft antispyware back in the day of beta 1, and it was okay...too many services going on. i think its changed significantly now.
