Freesync with crossfire

I have a 290 now and an acer XG270HU (freesync display). I'm looking to bring up my fps a little and I'm considering adding a second 290 and using crossfire.

I've never used crossfire before and I've read some negative comments about microstutters. Would it be a better idea to upgrade to a 390x 8gb or fury x, or spend $200 on a used 290 and crossfire them? I appreciate any input.

Find a 290 to crossfire. Microstutter is not an issue with XDMA Crossfire. Microstutter issues was only GCN 1.0 and older.

Microstutter is always an issue, it just is not as bad as it used to be. The only problem is Freesync doesn't support crossfire the last I saw.

I wouldn't say that entirely. Perhaps it is better with XDMA, but it is still visible (at least it was for me).

I had microstutter in WoW/FFXIV with 290X CFX and it was also visible during Firestrike.

HOWEVER, microstutter is very subjective and it turns out I'm just sensitive to it. My GF could only witness the stutter in WoW and Firestrike but she couldn't see it in FFXIV. (Granted, I didn't run my full catalog of games through the gambit but these were the games I was playing at the time.)

No. Freesync does not work in crossfire. Crossfire is hit and miss with every game. Crossfire stutters like crazy. I've disabled xfire on my 7970's and found that in all the games I am currently playing or have loaded, they are way smoother at 40fps on one gpu than they are at 80fps in xfire.

I'm done with xfire and SLI. Will only be single GPU from now on.

it is ok to be wrong man, now you know better...that is how learning works.

Lol. I can understand, but it's like saying, "the last time I had a burger from MD's it sucked" and having someone say, "You are wrong! MD has great burgers now".

Correct me, just don't go, "You are wrong", when I clearly stated it in a way to say I am not sure about it today by using, "the last time I checked". It just didn't set right with me.

Your advice was wrong and you were corrected. Why so defensive? 🙄
