Question Freesync system requirements

Kind of a noob question here, but do AMD drivers support freesync on Windows 7? I was wondering as I have a friend with an R9 390X on windows 7 with what should be a freesync monitor. He is using DVI currently though. Before he goes out to buy a DP or HDMI cable, will latest drivers support freesync on Windows 7?

I don't know myself as I have not used Windows 7 in years, and I read somewhere that freesync needs windows 10. Thanks!

I was under the impression that FreeSync required Windows 10 as well, take that with a big grain of salt. I have no supporting documentation for that viewpoint. Only that many of AMD's advanced features in their drivers, DO require Windows 10.

Windows 8.1 and older do NOT support variable refresh rate (WDDM 2.0 is required). Windows 10 is a requirement, for both nVidia and AMD implementations of FreeSync.

Up until December I ran Win8.1 with Freesync ON. It should run on Windows 7 too, as I was using the Win7 driver (no Win8.1 drivers for a while now).
It won't work on DVI though. You need DisplayPort or HDMI. You'll have to look into the monitor's specs to see on which ports it supports Freesync.
