So, I've been thinking about Freenet recently. I like the concept, the notion that a truly anonymous distributed method of online expression is a good thing; but I'm sensitive to the charge that Freenet has pretty much degenerated into a pit of more and less stomach churning porn. Obviously, one can't have censorship on a network designed to be decentralized and anonymous; but it seems to me that it would be good to at least raise the signal to noise ratio a bit.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what sorts of things would make good additions to the network, or know of any existing efforts to build legitimate and useful structures within Freenet?

Find anything and everything that you can that is banned in China.

Music and movies if you object to DRM / copyright power abuse.

I can't think of anything else offhand.
