So this buddy of mine asks me for a ride to the airport. I take him to the airport and he doesn't even offer to pay for gas!

I'm not a friggin taxi service! If you want a ride I expect to get paid for it!D:😡

Also, I'd never expect a friend to pay for gas if I'm giving them a ride. At some point I'll need a favor and they'll help me out like I did. That's what friends do.

You don't sound like much of a friend... Only looking to help if there's something in it for you

Isn't that sort of what "buddies" do for each other? I wouldn't take gas money from a friend to start with, although I suppose it never hurts to offer.

Damn ... gorcorps beat me to it!

I would feel even more dirty/cheap if I was like "Here man, here's $1.65 for the gas used to go here".... Like others have said, if you're truley friends you shouldn't need/expect money from eachother unless it's purchase related.

That's about right. I'd offer to buy him lunch on the way there or something in return.

3 buddies of mine are riding with me to run the Tough Mudder May 7th in Atlanta and they'll split gas. Because that will be over $100 easy for the 3 days we're there. Generally the driver doesn't pay gas because it's my vehicles and they can chill while I get annoyed with traffic for several hours. But just a ride to the Airport? Nah, don't ask for cash for that. It's what friends do.

How much do you charge per mile to give rides to friends? Does it only cover gas and an hourly rate for your time, or do you also factor in insurance, wear and tear on the vehicle, interest on your auto loan? Do family members get a break?

Driving to the Toronto airport and back takes several hours :colbert:

I'll still do it for friends and family if I can though.

If I had time, I would too. I wouldn't ask for anything, they would just offer lunch or drinks when they got back. The money isn't an issue, its friends taking care of friends.

We didn't set up a deal for gas driving to Atlanta, I just know how they are. We're staying two nights to run the race. They'll pay for gas or drinks since I am driving my vehicle for all of us. I won't ask, it's just kinda understood we take care of each other.
