Freelancer is out

Been playing this game since last night and OMG its cool, the graphics look great and it runs at 1600 res. For those with the Radeon 9700 Pro cards make sure you lower your hardware accel one notch it will fix any stuttering in the game. My friend and I tried to do a lan game last night but the servers were down so havent got to try multi yet, but the sp is very fun.

One thing I didn't like is how the decreased the number of possible upgrades available. You can't buy radars and power generators anymore.

Some people have likend Freelancer to Diablo in space, you think this is an accurate comparison? This game sounds fun, I just havent gotten around to downloading the demo-----

well, diablo is more complex than freelancer. there is more opportunity for advancement, there are more items to collect. the thing that bothers me most is, freelancer gives you many places to go and explore, but absolutely no reason to do so. in diablo, there was an end-goal: defeating diablo.

I never played Diablo so I cant compare, all I know is this game is a blast if you want some kick ass space combat fun.

Have you gotten to the next level yet? I picked up a copy today and moved my demo character over to it to continue my game. I amassed the 29,000 in worth, but I didn't level up. I did trade routes (found some diamonds and a good one running light arms from new york to the battleship missouri) to get over 29,000 in cash, but I'm still level one.

(BTW - I vote we make this the offical Freelancer thread for AT 😀)

Ill tell you guys this with 4x AA on this games edges look smoother then any game I have seen so far, even Unreal 2. Gamespot only gives the graphics an 8 out of 10 I gotta say they are closer to 10 with AA on.

What are you doing to level up? Is it when your net worth hits the point in your profile or when your total cash equals that?

I'm wondering if maybe I shouldn't have copied my demo character over to play with it, and thats the problem.

Freelancer is a damn good game...BUT it sure makes you wonder what could have been. The gameplay and the world is great....but everything seems so shalow🙁 Once you realize things dont change alot no matter how much time you put in you feel kinda left hangin.....

Im just doing the missions and killing so it levels you up. I keep buying ships and weapons when I can so my worth is only 23000+ next level is 27000+

exactly... i've been anticipating this game for many years now, because i thought it was going to be the perfect mix between david braben's "elite" and sid meier's "pirates!". it's a pretty decent game, but i am still very dissapointed.

A savegame from the demo won't work properly with the full game - you need to start a fresh character.

I see some minor Diablo similarities (picking up random drops - lots of senseless killing), but while I plan to enjoy this game when I get around to picking up a full copy (sometime this weekend), I don't think the multiplayer will hook me nearly as completely as DiabloII/LOD did.

You're probably right. The Level 2 restriction seems fairly high, maybe they tweaked it for the demo so people could play longer.

I'm not a big fan of the mission pickups. It seems like it takes so long to fly to a planet/station, pick up the mission, fly back from the planet/station and actually get to the mission. It'd be nice if we could pick them up from the radio.

Played a little online today. That has the potential to be really cool, but the universe is so big that even with 32 players, you rarely ever see another player.
