The code works fine and should work for everyone as it looks like a public key.

I downloaded it from FileFront last night but didn't have a key to play with :(

This one works fine. I'm assuming others are using it and I can still play.

DirectX 9.0 required... yikes.

So???

DirectX 9 isn't the most stable piece of software in the world, at least from a developer's standpoint.

Anyway, installed and run. Graphics are a little dated I think. Reminds me of Wing Commander 3 and 4 style. Of course that's from the same producer...

well, I plyed the demo, its kinda cool, but the game crashed as soon as I tried to land on pittsburgh. Joystick would have made the combat more fun.

Its reminds me of one of those 10 year old games that had really good graphics and you only pay 10 bucks for it.

I think the key is just created for you when you visit this page Does it work for anyone else?

If it creates you a key lmk and ill host the file

HELL YES

Dood it workz!

:D

Wow nice. Didn't think you could do it like that.

File Front had the game last night but I didn't have a key :(

So you can check File Front to download it.

Too bad I gotta go to work now :(

Actually im not sure if it will work :-/

The games nothing great imo, the speech is lame, and sounds are too, mediocore gameplay, the rpg part of it sucks. Its really lame lol

there are some sound issues because it uses some older codecs that things like Nimo overwrite. THere is a fix out there somewhere

This game IS the same game as an old Origin game by the name of Privateer, a Wing Commander spin-off produced by yours truly - Chris Roberts. IIRC Freelancer was Roberts' brainchild when he left Origin, and they had some REALLY huge ambitions for it back in 1999, so big in fact that some of the things were technically not feasible at the time. Looks like that time has come, and from an objective standpoint (I played Privateer from beginning to end), the two games and identical with a few little bits of difference.

This game is technically somewhere between Wing Commander 4 and Allegiance (another Roberts' spin-off) as far as graphics etc. The cut scenes look like Half-Life, which, honestly is getting a little long in the tooth. The lip sync with the speech sucks, even compared to Wing Commander 1.

Frankly, you can see the age in this game, it's a 1999 product, supposed to have been released in 2000. And it shows.

But... the really nice thing is that aside from the story line which you play out, you can just simply go out and make money and kill things for the fun of it - just like Privateer. The addition of Multiplayer (don't know how well it works, not available in the demo) might be nice. Who knows, I'm not sure other than dogfights what good multiplayer would be. Coop mode? Competitive multiplayer? Dunno.

But if you've already played Privateer in the early 90's, then don't bother getting this game. It's the same thing with a different story line and prettier graphics.

[edit] And I'm not too fond of the the GameSpy spyware that's forcably installed either [/edit]

Heads up everyone, this sucker comes with Spy/DRMware. Netquartz EZpad contains an innovative AAS technology which removes a piece of a game?s code that users must access and seamlessly execute in the netquartz Virtual Machine, a non-standard environment, before using the game.:| I've watched it with Zone Alarm, it's sending out something to 212.157.245.2; knowing our luck and MS, I wouldn't be suprised if it was CD-keys and such.

Because comparing released games to one that hasn't been is really fair....

I played privateer, as well as it's expansion pack Righteous Fire and I'm still going to buy Freelancer. Privateer is by far my favourite game - I still have it :)

Wow, just checked out eve... looks AWESOME. Signed up for the beta immediatly.

The only difference here is... EVE isn't out yet, while Freelancer is going to be out soon. Kind of not able to compare really.

3Dgamers.com has it now

Badass game.

[rant] though I wish I could use my frickin' $100 MicroShaft Joystick with it. This is BS, I paid $100 for a Force Feedback 2 and I can't even use it with a space game by M$. Ghey. [/rant] :|

Just started playing this. Took a little while to get acquainted with everything, but it's been fun enough so far to keep me busy most of the day. The basic idea of the game has been rehashed a number of times before, so it remains to be seen how well they pull it off in Freelancer.
