I just downloaded the demo off fileplanet (subscriber only)

AND IT IS SOOOOO AWESOME

It is so good. The graphics are excellent even on my GF3. The controls are very intuitive and I cannot wait for the full thing. Its a Space shooter, Adventure, RPG all rolled into one.

A few screenshots I took:

you have to check in with gamespy account so it won't work even if someone did host it.

I did however just find out that I'll have the full thing this weekend sometime. OMG!

I still plan on buying it when it comes out but, WOOOOOO

Wasn't this best game at E3 1999? I recall being excited about it then...but 4+ years is a long time in the pipeline.

WTF is up with game companies these days. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO USE A JOYSTICK, to better feel like I'm flying a fricken spaceship.

1.) To the original poster: Those are all cut scenes. I need some actual graphics ;)
2.) Read a review of the game. They made it so you wouldn't need a joystick. Almost all reviews that I've read have said that the controls are excellect w/o a joystick.

Yeah, but where the hell is the fun it just clicking on a ship, and having your own ship auto follow it. I mean jeez, they're taking all the fun and challenge out of these games. Just like everthing else in life, they're dumbing them down to the lowest common denominator. I know I don't *NEED* a joystick, but I *WANT* to be able to use one.

As long as there is no joystick support, I will NOT buy this game.

From the FilePlanet main page:

We've worked with the good folks at Microsoft to give FilePlanet Subscribers the first taste of Freelancer, and now the demo is available to all members of FilePlanet. The demo of this action-packed, Sci-Fi masterpiece contains the entire first system of the game: The Liberty System of Manhattan.

EVERYBODY can download it now - just stand in line for half an hour before the DL starts.

[edit] Sydney server = 95 minute wait time, the rest are all 110+ minutes --- damn, 618 of 626 in line, I'll be neffing for a while[/edit]

From what I read, you use the mouse and keyboard to aim using the WSAD keys. I will have to see how well it works. I just don't like plugging my joystick in whenever I want to play a game, then unplugging it and putting it away when I'm done.

I wish they would make more games compatible with the Playstation2 controllers. I love my PS2 controller and it would be awesome for games like this.

You have to DL it from File Planet. There is a "key code" you get when you download it. Even if someone hosts it you couldn't play it.
