This is what i think as a non-american citizen living in America. (Oh no, my english is bad... what am i too do? Can't make it to Harvard now! 😀 )

All stated are true facts that is going on or had happened. Facts will be mentioned as accurate as possible. I will mention when i quote my own opinions.

No facts are right or wrong, just facts!

Fact:

On around Jan 2002, California School system has adopted the "Houghton-Mifflin textbook "Across the Centuries" for 7th graders. With this book, the System is forcing students to practice Islam

Under the guise of teaching a history/social studies class on world religions, students are subject to an intense 3 week study of Islam that requires them to:

*Pray "in the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful" "Allah is the Islam God"
*Chant "Praise to Allah, Lord of Creation"
*Memorize key verses of the Koran. "Koran is the Islam Holy Book"
*Learn the tenets of Islam.
*Wear Arab-style robes.
*Adopt a Muslim Name.
*Stage their own "Jihad" through a dice game. "Jihad is malay for "Holy War", which the Al-Queda is waging against USA now"

The issue here is indoctrination, it's unconstitutional. Tolerance & education is not an issue here.


I guess more people are promoting Islam since it is a fact that it is the fastest growing religion in USA now! Over 7 million muslims.

and just because a perticular school system adopts a textbook to be used, doesnt mean the entire text will be used...you all remember lugging around those big books and using 25% of them in class...

Uhm I thought Across the Centuries HAVE been in schools for quite awhile now? As for making the kids do the things you listed, that sounds like BS. There are standards that the district sets for kids to learn and how they go about learning those things are left up to the teacher. Thus any sort of guidelines on how to teach those Islam chapters sounds ludicrous.

This is old news..............that's why it's hard to find info on!😉 It's the same textbook that has been used for years in schools and it made national news after 9/11. The district in which this became an issue admitted that a certain teacher was going beyond the subscribed cirriculum and they corrected the problem after many students/parents complained.

As for teachers being able to "teach as they want"....................the teachers have a defined cirriculm they agree to follow which is defined by the state/federal gov. in "public" schools, and by the people whom support the school in "perohcial" (sp?) schools. Many teachers have been reprimanded/lot their jobs by straying from the subscribed cirriculm............it happens ever year. So, no, any given teacher may not simpley go into the classroom and teach "however they want"...................😉

i think you've taken things out of context... they might have had a chapter on Islam... but I doubt that this is mandatory... unless it's an Islamic elementary school.

I think it can be done! when i was in 7th grade, i sat in my classroom and obey what my teachers have to teach or say to me(most of the time). you might be a rebel in school, but alot of kids sit and listen.

Nothing is taken out of context or twisted, if you or any other cannot handle the truth on whats going on in America, so be it, this is a Free country!

This is indeed old news, it began in or around Jan 2002. Those who are christians and listens to "Point of View Radio Talk Show", you'll probably know about this issue.
 
i don't know if you're aware of this, but many schools do the same thing with the crusades and christianity. i got to be the bishop... kicked ass, i had power over the king and queens 🙂

There is no such thing as a non-american citizen. Either your english needs work or you fail to grasp fundemental concepts. If you actually believe freedom is going to destroy the USA then you should probably leave the USA and return to where you came from.

I'm not saying this is not a great nation, all nations have their problems.. but some do something about it because they come to realise that they have big problems!
 
If you're worried that seventh graders can be "indoctrinated" into a religion (by a single textbook chapter) which apparently now is going to "kill America" over the space of three weeks, is there really any hope for the country anyway?

Learning about cultures other than your own is what tolerance and education is all about. In grade four I learned about Hanukkah for a week and participated in the candle lighting and what-not. You don't see me preaching orthodox Judaism on street corners.
