Freebird or Stairway?

I have been having a debate with a friend over which classic 70's rock anthem is better. Personally, I'll take Freebird for my money, though Zeppelin are amazing. What do you all think?

Edit - added Floyd's "Wish You Were Here"

They all suck. How about "21st Century Schitzoid Man"?

I would have to go with Stairway, since I lived somewhere where the classic rock radio station felt they had to play Freebird at least 15 times a day and I am now completely sick of it. :-(

I would say Stairway.

I love Pink Floyd and Wish You Were Here as much as the next guy, but I would NOT conisder that a 70's rock anthem.

Incubus screwed up Wish You Were Here, but it's Floyd.

Bwuahahahahahah! *Wipes tear away* That's funny!!

I like the Incubus song, but they won't be around in 2003. Look at Creed. They sold millions (literally) of their first album. The new ones sucks booty. These new bands only have this much talent. Once the glass is empty, they burn out quickly.

Oh, BTW...STAIRWAY! That song (and Dust in the Wind) helped aspiring Fingerpickers everywhere learn to play.

I love Stairway as much as the next guy... but this song should definitely be up there with the other two

I voted for Stairway.

But as a rule, I would much rather listen to anything by Pink Floyd than Led.........

BTW: A little rock trivia.

Did you know that they originally wanted to call the band "The New Yardbirds" but their manager (I believe it was ) said "That should go over about as well as a Led Zeppelin!". And the rest is history!

heh...Freebird...heh...funny.

A local public radio station just finished a 2001 top songs of all time (started day after Christmas). They had about 2000 entries submitted by listeners (and not just local as they stream over the web at WFPK) and added in the DJs lists.

When it came time for #1, they started playing a live version of Freebird. I busted out laughing! About 10 seconds later there was this sound of a needle scraping across a record and then they played Imagine - John Lennon. Just found it quite amusing.

Stairway if I have to pick between those 2. How about Bohemian Rhapsody? :D I thought it was Keith Moon who said they would go over like a led zeppelin.

Those three are my favorite songs from that era but I would also have to throw in Yes' "Roundabout" into the mix.

As for a 70's rock anthem during that period of time, you also can't forget Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water"; one of the period's greatest rock anthems though admittedly not as sustaining as the others.
