I'm not sure if this applies only to this trial, but I have customers running WIN/2003 64-bit usign an Intel Itanium processor.

I think this post is incorrect though, since WIN/XP only comes in 'home' and 'pro', both 32-bit.
WIN/2003 comes in atleast 4 different versions, and this is only the 32-bit version. The 64-bit version is another story.....

I'm running WIN/2003 standard and it has only crapped out 2x, due to me using hacked drivers for my parallel port webcam (okay... all you can start laughing now)

Well, just ordered the download since I am too cheap to pay the shipping, but infact it was WIN/XP (not 2003) 64-bit.

I'm not sure why any business would buy an expensive 64-bit machine to install this OS and not WIN/2003, but so be it, I guess I was wrong.

If anyone does install this, please post if it is more stable than the 32-bit win/xp, and perhaps if there is more driver support.

Windows XP is a mainstream OS Windows 2003 server is not. With the AMD 64bit processors going for as low as 200 dollars, i see no reason not to have a 64 bit version, it needs to be done sooner or later.

I actually spent $8 for the CD to be shipped to me. I don't have an A64 yet, but I think it'll be cool to have as an historical artifact. I can put it with the CDs I still have from the Windows XP Public Preview the summer before WinXP was released. What the hell, I figured. Might be worth something to a collector a few decades hence, maybe. Probably not, but who knows?

Exactlly. Plus it's kinda cool to play with the betas. It was kinda neat to see the XP Beta 2 boot up with a splash screen that read "Whistler". I really hope they put out a Longhorn preview for us to play around with in a year or so.

For the ppl who're asking "Why not use Windows 2003 64-bit that's already out", I think (and someone correct me if I'm wrong), that it's only for Itanium, not Athlon64. There's also a Windows XP 64 Bit Edition out already, which is also for Itanium. This particular 64-bit edition (the 365 day free version) is Athlon64 specific, and not for Itanium. Man, too many versions of Windows....so confusing.

A couple of tech people told me that if I have WinXP, I'd be allowed to uninstall it and install Win98 instead... something about being allowed to go back to previous versions..

A. is this true?

B. If so, and I build a computer tomorrow, can I get this one year license for free, and then just install winxp instead? (dropping to an earlier version?)

For anybody thats order the CD, when are they supposed to ship, and have you been charged for it yet?

I order a CD for the 7.03 SH probablly the same day this thread started. I am still waiting for the CD, but I think i read somewhere that it would take quite a while for them to get the CD's out. But one thing I am wondering is when I will be charged. I have yet to see the charge on my debit card and am just wondering if they will wait till it ships(since technically what i paid for was shipping)to charge my card?

Right now, yes, but once 64bit windows, drivers, and games get ironed out, things will be better off on 64bit. This whole process won't be finished for at *least* another year.

Hahahaha, that's about the funniest thing i've heard this month. Alpha/Beta OS work great? Unlikely...
Thanks for cheering me up at least :)
