Has anybody been able to play a DVD using WMP after installing Vista? I can't get it to play a DVD.

Did you install a DVD decoder? You need something like PowerDVD or WinDVD so Windows can play the file. Maybe Home Premium and Ultimate come with the decoder. I've been kind of curious about that.

I thought that having a built in DVD decoder at least for "normal DVDs" (as opposed to
high definition BluRay/HD-DVD discs) was a 'feature' of Vista that was to make it better than XP.

I've not seen anywhere that claimed that a DVD playing decoder was NOT to be present in
any edition of VISTA, and I'd certainly be disappointed in Microsoft if they've excluded it!

I don't know what Media Player version comes with VISTA; I imagine you MIGHT get more
codecs and playable formats supported if you upgrade it to whatever the latest one is... WMP11, IIRC.

I have Vista Business installed and WMP is definitely wanting a DVD decoder. I'm hoping that there aren't any issues with Powerdvd and Vista.

I got my copy 3 or 4 days ago. Oddly, the paper included with it said demo, but I don't think it is...at least the DVD doesn't mention anything about it being a demo copy.

The URL that comes with the OFFICE product literature leads to a download of
a single file which is the main install file for MS OFFICE 2007 PRO.

However, MS OFFICE 2007 PRO *also* includes licenses for other programs,
e.g. the "MS OUTLOOK 2007 WITH BUSINESS CONTACT MANAGER" that's
listed in the set of programs that are included with your license.

The single downloaded file APPARENTLY DOES NOT CONTAIN THOSE EXTRA
PROGRAMS.

If you use the "Download a 60 day free trial of MS OFFICE 2007 PRO" link which
is unrelated to the PowerTogether promotion you're presented TWO download URLs
and are told you must download BOTH files for the complete set. ONE of those files
is the same one that's downloaded from the URL given in the
POWERTOGETHER OFFICE BROCHURE.

The OTHER file is the one with Business Contact Manager etc.

Here's the info to get both:

You can just download the other files from:
http://us1.trymicrosoftoffice.com/product.aspx?sku=3082915&culture=en-US

The file that the you've already possibly downloaded that is
common between the link on the powrertogether office
brochure and the 60 day trial site is : X12-30196.exe
which apparently has most of MS OFFICE 2007 PRO in it.

According to synapse the other file contains the programs
he listed above; spefcifically "Business Contact Manager"
for Outlook is one of the things that our 2007 OFFICE PRO.
license gives us the capability to use since it's listed in the
included programs list in the brochure. I'm not sure if the
other programs in that 2nd download are also licensed to
us and just weren't considered primary enough to add to
the "MS OFFICE 2007 PRO INCLUDES" bullet list.

Anyway if you want Business Contact Manager for Outlook
and possibly also those other programs he listed, just
download the other file from the link I've given and that
use your existing permanent retail OFFICE product key
if needed.

EDIT: For those who may have downloaded the
MS OFFICE 2007 PRO file but who are still missing the
2nd download with your Business Contact Manager For Outlook:

Here are the direct links to the files:

MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007 PROFESSIONAL minus Business Contact Manager for Outlook et. al.
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msoffice/pub/X12-30196/X12-30196.exe

MICROSOFT 2007 Business Contact Manager for Outlook et. al.
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msoffice/pub/X13-40150/X13-40150.exe

And the MD5s for reference:

63755d66246f105ced224979c0df77c6 *msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msoffice/pub/X12-30196/X12-30196.exe

0c4705c56b3f68f2bf3dc8eaee9ee7e9 *msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msoffice/pub/X13-40150/X13-40150.exe

In case anyone prefers, here's the link to the "60 day free trial" product key &
download of MS OFFICE 2007 PRO which ends up linking to the two files above:
http://us1.trymicrosoftoffice.com/product.aspx?sku=3082915&culture=en-US

If you've ALREADY downloaded via the URL given in the
POWERTOGETHER OFFICE FLYER, you ALREADY should have this file:
X12-30196.exe
...and it'll be the OTHER one that you still need to get for the complete set.

the new version of powerdvd works on vista business.

but it also automatically forces vista to windows basic. Once you turn off powerdvd it turns back to aero

That really sucks; do they call that a bug or are they even aware of the
incompatibility? Do they claim full vista compliance? Is it a beta or something?

Wait, so with my free copy of vista business, I can install on a desktop AND a laptop with no problems using the same key?

its the full version, but not often you'll be messing around with windows while you're running a dvd at the same time =P

Negative. That's the OFFICE PROFESSIONAL license that lets you use
a primary and a portable PC both with the license.

VISTA is licensed to a single PC at a time, though since it's the retail version you are
permitted to transfer it to a new replacement machine as needed.

I totally hate this issue, the same thing happens with a program I us that uses an old version of java. Microsoft should ahve made it so that one program doesn't use aero not disabling it all.

Order here,
it's said to be 'free' beyond a shipping/handling fee (9.95 AFAIK)
for the 64bit media; you'll need your current product key to order.

Thanks a lot man. You've been extremely informative.

Office arrived today for me (Pennsylvania)

The feel of getting a $499 product for free is great, just like OC'ing that $150 processor to be just as fast as that $1000 one. :D
